Chapter 13
When Jae saw the front door barely hanging off its hinges, his breath caught.
“Yoochun?” Jae said weakly.
He wasn’t supposed to walking around town in his state but something told him that Yoochun was in trouble. Besides, it wasn’t like he broke out of prison like Yoochun once did to get Jaejoong out of a bad situation.
Jae could almost smell Changmin’s presence and for the first time, it made him cringe.
“Shit,” Jae said when he saw Yoochun lying in the middle of the lobby, curled up into a ball, clearly trying to pick himself up.
Yoochun met eyes with Jae and then, almost as if out of relief, gave up the fight to drag himself to the bathroom to clean up.
“You’re such an idiot.” Jae bent down beside him to try to hold him in some way but Yoochun protested.
He spoke in a strained, rash whisper. “Shut up, that’s exactly what Changmin said before he beat the shit out of me.”
“You look so ugly with blood on your face. And I know it feels worse than it looks, right?”
“Nope, it feels like I might be in love.”
Jae smirked, as if in victory, and said, “I knew you were gay.”
Yoochun tried laughing, but his ribs hurt and he ended up wincing.
Muffled voices hit Jae’s hear and Jae shushed Yoochun all of a sudden.
“What?”
“We have guests.”
Yoochun groaned. “I’m not in any position to entertain.”
--
“You assholes better not be faking this. You know you’re going to die if you are right?”
Heechul smiled; his smile coming off as more of a sneer. “But you’re going to fuck me before you shoot me; right, Siwon?”
Siwon shook his head but laughed.
Yunho would have joined them but it took more than just two random guys leading him to an unknown place to trap him. Kyuhyun and Heechul were instead accompanied by Siwon, who had a dozen other guys willing to jump in front of bullets for him, if need be.
“But if you’re not wrong about this, then dude, you’re going to be fucking rich.”
“And then you’re going to fuck me?”
“Slut.”
“God, call me that when I’m on my knees for you, gorgeous.”
“Wow, Heechul wants to be the devotee for a change,” Kyuhyun said satirically.
“Doesn’t happen often,” Heechul confirmed.
“You’re making it so hard for me to imagine you dead now.”
Heechul stopped in front of Yoochun’s door but Siwon didn’t miss a beat. He kicked the door open, only to find it barely hanging on to its hinges. The door flew across the living room.
“Shit, somebody’s already been here.”
Siwon gripped the gun in his hand and followed the trail of blood that stained the carpet. Kyuhyun followed, ready for action with his own fully loaded pistol. Siwon was worried for a second. Because the blood was fresh, he could smell it, and it could have been Junsu’s.
Not only would Yunho kill him for presenting him with Junsu’s dead body, but he would do it in a way that was 10 times worse than whatever had happened to Junsu.
The floor creaked when they walked across and it bothered Siwon. He wasn’t scared, just apprehensive.
He motioned to Kyuhyun to go towards the bedrooms while he checked the kitchen and den. Kyu nodded, disappearing into a hallway. Heechul was at the door, on lookout duty.
A strong smell hit Siwon’s nostril, something he had smelt before for sure. A rancid smell of death filled his nose and he flinched a little, tightening his grip on his weapon. He walked slower, making cautious advances towards the smell. It was almost as if this was a trap. Junsu had always just been dead and Changmin made it seem like they could save him.
Before he had a chance to dismiss that thought, the blood trail widened and a leg poking out from behind the kitchen counter caught his eyes.
Shit, please don’t be Junsu, He prayed silently.
The leg stirred and he rushed towards it, ready to fire or ready to seize, depending on who it was.
He was pretty sure he pulled the trigger. He was sure he heard a gunshot.
--
Kyuhyun and Heechul both ran inside when they heard the shot. Experience was what they lacked; they could be pretty successful in this business if they had been in it a little bit longer. With experience, they would have known that after a gunshot is fired, one should never run towards the sound.
The nuzzle of an Italian reed was in front of Kyuhyun’s eyes in less time it took for him to process that Siwon was lying on the floor with a hole in his head.
A different fist connected with Heechul’s face in about the same time frame and held him down, keeping him out of the kitchen.
“What do you kids want?”
Kyuhyun raged with anger at the sight of Yoochun standing in front of him. The lack of experience played with his head but it was more the emotional attachment to this case that made him lose control. He launched himself at Yoochun, prepared to claw his eyes out.
Yoochun extended his arm and stuck the gun in Kyuhyun’s stomach, not pulling the trigger just yet. As squeezed for time as he was, he somehow didn’t want to kill them. He could recognize Siwon’s face as the enemy so he killed him but these people weren’t associated with Yunho or Changmin in any way.
Kyuhyun let out an oof but his arms kept moving, legs thrashing, anything to weaken Yoochun.
Then the gun’s magazine hit his temple and black coloured his vision. He fell to the ground and felt Yoochun’s heel dig into his ribs.
“Get out of here before you can and don’t come back.”
“Bastard, I’m not leaving until I kill you.”
“God, you’re so stupid. I’m giving you a chance to live here. I don’t know if you have anything against me but if you’re just in it for the money, it’s seriously not worth it.”
The heel dug in deeper and Kyuhyun winced, vision already spotty and getting smaller. “You … killed my …”
“Brother? Boyfriend? Yea, I’ve heard that before. And trust me, you won’t be able to kill me. But I don’t want to kill you either. So I’m just going to knock you out, alright? Don’t try to look for me again.”
Yoochun felt a knife slice open his ankle and the wetness of blood. “Mother-“ The trigger was pressed three time out of rage and Kyuhyun’s body twitched at the second and third shot.
“Yoochun, you alright?”
“Bastard cut me before dying,” Yoochun said, limping towards the living room where Jae waited for him with Heechul tightly under his hold. “Heechul? Wha-”
“Why did you have to kill Zhou Mi?”
Yoochun scoffed. “Oh. Was that his boyfriend I just knocked? It’s my job, Hee, you know that.”
“You’re going to pay for all your doings sooner or later and you know that, right?”
“He’s already paying for it. He’s got to fight the two godfathers of Korea to save his boyfriend or else he will die due to lack of delicious ass,” Jae said and laughed.
Yoochun reached to slap Jae’s head but Jae dodged him. “Seriously, Heechul, get out of here.”
“There are about 12 of Yunho’s men camping out in your building right about now.”
“How’d you know about Junsu being here anyway?”
Heechul reached into his pocket and tossed Yoochun his customized lighter, flinching when Jae twisted his hand even further so he wouldn’t lose hold.
“Smart.”
“So you’re in love with Junsu now? I thought you said love was overrated, especially for someone like you,” Heechul said, voice strained from having Jae press on his wrist.
“I might have said that, but I don’t have time to reminisce the old days. Just get outta here.”
Yoochun motioned to Jae and Jae released his hold on him slowly, rolling his eyes at the fact Yoochun was really acting like he was going to let Heechul go.
Heechul ran to Kyuhyun the minute he was free and ran a hand across his motionless face, whispering his sorry’s.
“Yoochun, you should really take a cold shower or something. Get the blood off your face and cool your head.”
“And you need to get back on your bed in the hospital, baby.”
Jae smiled. “I’m fine, the doctor said I could go home and everything, I’m just supposed to be confined to a bed for a long time. You need a shower.”
“Actually, with the way my ribs are crunching every time I breathe, I think the shower will make it a little worse.”
“You are not human, bro.”
Yoochun didn’t really know why he was arguing, Jae would make him take a shower and then dress his wounds before he let him go out. It was frustrating really, but it was the closest thing Yoochun had to someone who cared. A bell interrupted their (sorta) argument.
“It’s Choi Siwon’s phone.”
Yoochun walked over and bent to dig through Siwon’s pockets. The screen flashed and a name appeared on the display. Boss.
“What should I do, Jae?”
“You want to end this? Or just get Junsu?”
“Get Junsu. And then end it.”
“Pick it up, tell him to raid Changmin’s place, while they rip each other’s heads off, we get Junsu. We’ll think of the rest of it later on.”
“Most of that makes sense but you really think they’re-“
“Shut up and pick it up, if you don’t, he’s going to send his men up here to check on Siwon.”
Yoochun cleared his throat and picked up the phone. A deep voice, almost competing with his own voice but with a different tone to it, answered him.
“Siwon? Did you find him.”
“I’m afraid Siwon is no longer alive, Mr. Jung.”
Silence.
“Junsu was here but Changmin has just taken him to his warehouse on the outskirts of Incheon.”
“Whoever the fuck you think you are, bitch, you’re going to die soon, before or after Changmin does-“
“Mr. Jung, I’m sure he’s not expecting that you show up there before he invites you so better take advantage of this information instead of arguing with the hitman.”
Yoochun hung up before Yunho could and it was like a time bomb ticking after that. Yoochun had less time than both Yunho and Changmin to do what he wanted to do.
In the millisecond between he dropped the phone and turned around, he felt the nuzzle of a gun in his face and heard the gun fire. A different gun than the one in his face.
He inhaled sharply. “Fuck.”
Jae smirked as he blew on his gun for dramatic effect and kicked Heechul’s body to the side to let Yoochun pass.
“Closest anyone’s ever come to make me fear death.” Yoochun let out another breath of disbelief.
“What ever would you do without me, huh?”
Yoochun scoffed.
Jae took the gun out of under Siwon’s belt and stuck it under his own. “Now what?”
“Now we pull the greatest mission with the most amount of blood you’ve ever seen flowing. Or the most valuable blood you’ve ever seen flowing.”
“Yoochun, I don’t know if I told you, I love Changmin.”
“I know.”
“We’re going to kill Changmin?”
“No.”
“We’re going to hurt Changmin?”
“You’re going to hurt Changmin. Let’s see if he can hurt you back.”
“And if he can?”
“You trust yourself that much, don’t you? And if you don’t trust your love, then trust me. If he can hurt you, I’ll hurt him.”
Jae took a deep breath and let it out just as slowly. “Alright. You’re the man.”
“And men don’t need showers,” Yoochun snickered and loaded himself up with all the weapons he could fit on his body without falling over.
Jae rolled his eyes but ran over to the kitchen cabinet to find some supplies. He tossed them to Yoochun and Yoochun cleaned the visible blood off his face and disinfected the cuts from Changmin’s diamond rings embedded on his face. It stung but it was nothing Yoochun couldn’t handle.
“You made me waste so much time.”
“Changmin’s not killing Junsu until he’s got Yunho under tight hold and Yunho’s not killing Junsu either. So Junsu’s alive for a good 24 hours, don’t worry.”
Yoochun gave Jae a look that he didn’t have to explain.
Jae glared back. “I know. I also know we can do it either way. And if you’re thinking like I’m thinking then we can do it any way.”
“Whatever, dude. We’ll figure out if we’re on the same page on the way there.”
Jae threw Yoochun the keys to his car since Changmin had taken Yoochun’s before he left. Yoochun opened the door and came right back inside.
“But first, the dozen men who were waiting for us downstairs need to be taken care of.”
