Summer Updates...

Here's some brief updates so far:

- I finished painting my room (looks GREAT) and am now onto making the headboard. I've got the fabric and all the other necessary materials, and already have the foam on the plywood! I'm just waiting for mom to get home so she can help me put the fabric and batting on top.

Of course, I'm taking step-by-step pictures of everything so I can show the before/during/and afters. So be patient Gibby! ^_^ I'll post an update when the headboard is done.

- Celebrated 3 birthdays last week, when Keith's dad joined us for his, Mom's, and Keith's birthdays

- Went to La Capitale and totally had a freak-out moment when Prof. Bernard Woods of GWU walked in. Apparently his wife lives here in Salem, and they just split their time between two homes. It was just SO WEIRD - like a total "worlds collide" moment - when he walked by.

- Future roomie Sam Tamboline was driving up to Vancouver, BC so she stopped by for breakfast at THE Original Pancake House! I got to meet her younger sisters and her dad, who is an animator for Disney. He did Kronk for Emperor's New Groove, and the Princess in The Princess and the Frog!! They really loved the food, and it was great to catch up with Sam. They say they might spend the night in Salem on the way back down, too!

- Went to World Beat Festival downtown. On the first night I hung out with Dad, Anita, and Anita's daughter Brie. The early evening was hot and drippy (well, the temperature was hot, and I was drippy) but it cooled off quickly as soon as the sun set. Most everything was the same as last year, though we did catch a Native American Jazz Flutist who sounded great. Also ran into Kenton and his family there, so I hung out with him and his sister for a bit.

The next day Dad and I went back downtown to watch some of the Dragon Boat races. It seemed like everyone was having so much fun, and you couldn't have asked for better weather. My favorite part - after watching the races, of course - was walking around the team tents. Dragon Boat racing is really big in Portland, so we had a lot of large AND big name teams. I mean, the teams are naturally large because each boat carries 22 people, plus alternates/coaches, and sometimes teams have two or three boats! So the teams all had tents set up with folding chairs underneath, a table for food, and coolers everywhere. When they weren't racing, the teams would sit around, eat, laugh, play frisbee, stretch, or sing cheers. There was this AWESOME sense of camaraderie!!

I did feel bad for one team who, so close to the finish line, lost control of the boat (the tiller hit a bad current and had to peel off before he hit a buoy). Ironically enough, the team's name was "The Castaways". XD

- Went to Word of Mouth with Kenton and his sister Kelsey today, because they have Creme Brulee French Toast. I first made Creme Brulee with Kenton, and I also had a French Toast dinner with his family, so it seemed natural that I would invite them to Word of Mouth after seeing them at the World Beat. We had a good time overall, and the food was yummy. I wasn't a huge fan of their dinners, but the CMFT was delish.
