OK, don’t have much time. Everything is SO busy and I am SO stressed right now. There are warning lights blinking but I really don’t have time to attend to them at this point. Hopefully next week gets better…
- Saturday I arrive and waited up for my roomie to come back from somewhere (she actually got there on Friday) but she spent the night at a friends after drinking. =/ Well, at least she isn’t drunk at home!
- Sunday I slept in, showered, and hung out in the room. Misty came by and we went to CVS, Package Services, and then got lunch/dinner at one of the dining halls. While there I got to play with my new camera!! Unfortunately I wasn’t too pleased with the results, but when I learned only needed to update the firmware to fix the issues I was more relieved. In the meantime Misty made an entire playground out of my packaging materials. XD
- Monday was the first day of classes. It’s actually nice because my first class isn’t until 1:00pm, and though I have office hours at 11am that still gives me plenty of time to sleep in.
Monday/Wednesday Classes (Monday = Terrible Busy Day)
Textiles and Finish Materials - VERY interesting stuff (learning about carpets and piles and the benefits of solution-dyed yarns, etc.) but VERY scary. It’s all lecture based - and lectures at the “bad time” of the day (1:00-3:00pm) mean Jenna falls asleep. A lot. And this professor, though nice, literally told the class that only the “outstanding, knock-my-socks-off, professional quality projects would receive As”. Did I mention I was scared? ;_;
Arts and World Cultures: Same as last year, only hopefully better because it’s at a better time.
Architectural Drawing - YAY! I love Arch Drawing. I was basically programmed to draw straight lines (have you ever seen my doodles? I basically cross hatch various random shapes). And the professor, though tough - think football coach - likes me so it’ll be alright. Plus Misty is in the class! Unfortunate aspect is that it’s on The Vern and from 6pm to 9pm at night, with no dinner break. ;_;
After Arch. Draw Misty and I went to the only open restaurant on campus and watched “How I Met Your Mother” while eating dinner. I got her hooked. XD
Tuesday/Thursday Classes:
AutoCAD - Misty is in this one too. Worse than Arch. Draw because it’s at 8:30am in the morning on The Vern, which is like having an 8am on the main campus. ;_; Misty and I are already terrified with the work load and the standards of the professor (also head of the department). But however completely INSANE Prof. Speck may be - she refers to children as “crumb snatchers” and “the short species”, is at once funny and absolutely terrifying, and has a strong Canadian accent, she is almost just like Linda Powell, the lady I intern for. Sooo… I know how to get on her good side!
Gender Self and Society - Same as last year. Twice the class size though! ;_;
I’ll have work on Wednesday and Friday, like last semester, and PC Office Hours on Monday mornings and Friday evenings.
- Thursday I also had Plenary for Arts and World Cultures from 6:00-8:00pm. We watched the 1927 movie “Metropolis” - which actually wasn’t that bad. Really really funny most of the time, and just odd everywhere else. Definitely entertaining. And next week we’re watching Akira!! So excited .
-Friday it was COLD. Heck, it’s still COLD. Ok, not as cold as up north/Chicago but still cold. Our high was 16, but it felt like -1 because of the wind chill. Blech! So I stayed in the office, then went to the Vern for office hours, and then braved the traffic to hit the Generic Body Meeting and 24 Hour Play Writing Session. In between these events I watched some TV shows on my laptop and played with my camera.
The writing session itself was dead. There were only 6-7 people there, and ideas weren’t very easy to come by. The only thing I wrote was “My Stump” - which is sung to the tune of “My Humps”. And just as bad… if not worse. The good thing was that the Artistic Director LOVED it - even though it was uncomfortable and in “really bad taste”. Because, you know, I have really bad taste. XD I still cant’ read it with a straight face.
After the writing session I went to bed, then woke up early this morning for the acting session of the 24 Hour Play. I also washed my contacts down the drain. Good thing my new pairs came in the mail yesterday!! So at the acting session it was… well… me and the artistic director. SAD. We waited until 9:30 and then left. We’ll return at 5pm and hopefully have more people to help us act out the scenes. Good thing they’re mostly lists of things, so it won’t be hard to stage.
SOOOO…. That’s it. I’m sitting in Starbucks. It’s cold. And very stressed about the Inauguration.
- I want to go to the concert SO BADLY. I mean Bono/U2, Bruce Springsteen, Josh Groban?! Only problem is that I have to run brunch tomorrow morning - so I can’t go early to get a good spot or anything. MEH. Hopefully if it’s just me and I pack light I can squeeze in to a viewing area.
- I’ll be watching the parade instead of the swearing in. Basically people will only get to see one or the other due to the crowds (3 MILLION PEOPLE). So I’d rather see the parade - which contains Obama AND a bunch of other people, than just stand and watch Obama speak. And I can always watch the speech on my laptop if I want to.
I haven’t seen the swarms of people yet… but they’re coming. Security is up, traffic is TERRIBLE, and everyone is freaking out. Yay?
