KOOZA!

Dad came into town today! We saw Cirque Du Soleil's "Kooza" - which was unbelievable. I cannot express how absolutely obsessed I am with Cirque Du Soleil... My favorite parts were

- The Contortionists: Because having three women do frickin' amazing things with their bodies, stacking on top of one another, twisting themselves around their hips, and all together resembling a boa constrictor is INSANELY COOL. I love snakes to no end, and this is the closest I've ever seen human beings come to the superior awesomeness of snakes.

- The Wheel of Death: These guys had FUN. Which is very important when doing the Wheel of Death. I mean, in KA the wheel of death was huge and had double the cylinders (4 instead of 2)... but there was nothing special in the performance - they just went through a routine. Here, though there were only two acrobats on the wheel of death, they were 10x better because they put some life into it! They portrayed actual characters, had some ego/life to them, and took my breath away with their skills. They were AMAZING! They probably did the same things as the four KA guys, but because the Kooza guys were lively and interesting, I loved them all the more.

- The Scariness: Seriously, the Tightrope... Jumping the Teeterboard on Stilts... The Aforementioned Wheel of Death... everything was so much more nervewrecking and awe-worthy this time around. I was stunned by the talents of the performers! While KA was "Cool", particularly because of the technology/stage, and Varekai was "Fun" because of the colors, plot, and music... Kooza had by far the best performances I've seen. Even if some of them were trite average-circus concepts...

- The Music: A mix of orchestra, Arabic, jazz, and rock music. Oooh that sudden, surprising guitar riff always gives me shivers.

By by far my most favorite thing in the WHOLE SHOW was The Trickster. He was sooooo physical, though he didn't do a single act but cartwheel once! Just the way he stood, so confident and alluring, the way he orchestrated the entire piece through a simple shrug of his shoulders / turn of his head / twist of his hand... He was like a tiger, the way he stalked away and suddenly turned back, full of passion. He was like a puppet master, the way he pulled all the other actors with his charm, will, and magic. OMG SWOON. I haven't decided whether or not I want to love him or be him. Probably be him. He makes me remember how much I loved fantasies, the belief in true power, of dark allure. Already now I'm losing the little nuances of his actions - each of which contributed to his characters' supreme everything-ness - and which I don't want to EVER forget... But oh man. OH MAN. Words cannot describe...

Afterwards Dad and I toured the dorm and walked to Georgetown for dinner. Apparently the G20 is meeting this weekend to discuss Global Economics, because Foggy Bottom/Georgetown is swarming with dignitaries (and their secret service). We saw the Australian Prime minister drive by in his motorcade, then during dinner watched the Mexican, Brazilian, and Indian delegations drive into the Four Seasons. I love me a good motorcade, so having four (full of "noteworthy" people) drive by me in a single day is very exciting.

Now for sleepytime!
