May the fourth be with me ..

Yes, another birthday has come round, and thanks to the friends who wished me lovely greetings. I feel old. I am getting old. But hopefully also wiser ..

It hasn't stopped raining for weeks so not much outdoor photography has been done lately, but I also had to finish all my Uni work because I'm going away on a 7 week trip on Sunday. Such a lovely sense of relief to meet my tutors this morning, hand in all the work, and discuss Year 3, the main part of which is writing a 9000 word dissertation and a meaningful photographic personal project. Couldn't decide really what subject to write about as there are so many interesting things I could write about, but I need to decide somehow. It seems to come down to voyeurism v. surrealism and all the attendant psychological processes. All interesting stuff photographically and theoretically. I have done a huge amount of work this year, but it's hard to show it as a lot of it is video and experimental stuff.

I don't write much on here these days, for a few reasons really .. mainly because I get so much more interaction elsewhere, like on facebook or flickr, so I doubt I will continue to post photos and write on here, because I'm just doubling up on what I write elsewhere and that is a waste of effort for the returns it gives. I think I wrote a post containing some statistics in February. Since then, I have had 7022 views on Flickr (over 70,000 views now!) and on my Wordpress blog 514 views since then, and daily interactions on facebook. There is no comparison .. I think I've had 6 comments on here in that time, which is why I don't find it very rewarding. The numbers speak for themselves really. I have given up writing about my feelings publicly on the internet, or trying to write interesting stuff on here, because the other places are better, for what I'm doing now. And if I want to write about more intimate things, then I do it in an email or on Skype.

Most of the people who are interested in what I'm doing are on my facebook, and that is where I probably interact most, so if you aren't and you want to be, then add me. That way I know who my real friends are.

Life hasn't been too exciting publicly for several months when all I have done is do my Uni work, but it's about to get a whole lot more interesting. I'm off to Indonesia to meet my son who I haven't seen for 16 months now, as he's been in SE Asia and in Australia, so I can't wait to see him, it feels like a long time, and he's done so much and grown up a lot since Feb 2011. We will have several weeks to travel together and enjoy each other's company in a way we may never get to do again, so I'm really looking forward to that. I've also bought him a very nice camera for several birthdays and christmases which we will both enjoy learning how to use. It's a Canon 550d, but I am a Nikon user, however I can already see that it is probably as good as my more expensive Nikon. I could be converted to Canon (5D mk 2 I think, but that will have to wait until I get back).

It's exciting to go to countries I've never been to before .. Indonesia, Vietnam and hopefully also China, but also maybe back to Nepal. We have no fixed itinerary and that is part of the adventure.

So if you really want to see lots of interesting photos and follow the journey you can:

Read my blog: http://joannacaseyimages.wordpress.com/

Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joannacasey/sets/

Follow me on Twitter, haven't done a lot of that yet but I hope to while away: joanna_casey

Instagram, basically smartphone photography with a bit of social interaction: joannacasey

And that is quite enough to be going on with. Joanna Pardhy Casey on facebook, but most of you are on there already.

Haven't decided yet whether I will take my laptop, it's just more to carry around, but I might write more and get some work done more easily if I have it. Otherwise I will just take my iPhone and my iPad. Yes I'm a totally paid-up Apple person these days. I will not be able to get online like I can at home, so if I don't interact so much, that is why.

Not having any more deadlines for Uni work to do is a wonderful feeling of liberation and now I feel I will be able to work on my own projects over the summer. Can't wait!
