I've been making quite a lot of video for college projects lately (mostly quite bad), and I'm really starting to enjoy it now that I find editing less laborious and I understand how the software works. It took me a while to post one to YouTube, but I've posted two over the last couple of days, and no doubt there will be more to come.
For those of you who like my photographs, you will probably know that from 14th September 2010 I started a 365 project with a group of friends on facebook. I never thought I'd do it, as I often start things and don't finish them, but this time I did. Today I finally got round to making a video of it. Quite hard to show 365 photos without the viewer getting bored I think! I love the music of Ryuichi Sakamoto, so I used that for the soundtrack and timed the visuals to fit. It's the most basic edit possible for so many photos.
My orchids seem to feature quite a lot on days where I didn't feel like taking a photo and had left it to the last minute, but otherwise it's an interesting record of the changing seasons, and just the things that make up a life .. how I see the world around me.
For some reason, watching it makes me cry. Not sure if it's the haunting music, or the passage of time, or my mood, or how memories of loss are triggered, but it is what it is .. a year of my life.
I hope you enjoy it! Maybe it will inspire you to do a similar project yourself. Start on January 1st. I might do another year .. but this time, as well as a photo, I might also do a video clip every day. I saw one that a Dutch guy had done, called Wanderlust, about what he saw around him every day, and it gave me ideas and inspiration.
