Many websites have tznius-related posts this week. I'll sum them up for you and then ask my Rosh Hashanah question.

Matzav Tznius Article Here.  Summary: Having women join hatzalah for ob-gyn emergencies would be immodest. It is a breach of tznius standards.  Better let the men deliver babies.

1. I don't think that being an emergency responder is seen as a universal sign of sexual availability.

2. In the second article, we are hardly talking about someone in a bikini.

In New York City, it is NOT consider a universal sign of sexual availability to do any of the following:

- expose a collarbone
- expose hair even if you are a married woman
- not wear tights
- wear a knee-length skirt
- wear a skirt with a small slit
- wear a pencil skirt
- expose an elbow
- wear pants
- drive a car
- give a speech to a mixed crowd
- sing
- have your photograph published if you are modestly dressed
- have a publication refer to you by your full name
- wear the color red
- wear sandals

Some of this, of course, varies by culture. A perfectly tznius woman by ordinary frum standards would likely be harassed for dressing like a slut in certain Muslim countries, since a sheitel would be unheard of and the common ways of wearing a tichel or snood do not totally cover the neck. 150 years ago, exposing the ankle - even if covered by stockings - may have been scandalous. Part of the problem with ever-increasing tznius rules is that they actually condition men to react in a more sexual way to anything that they see, and to make more assumptions about women. This has been a well-documented phenomenon in Muslim countries (read "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, for example, or "Reading Lolita in Tehran").
