Boys' Yeshiva Dorms

In an open forum on imamother, the ladies are discussing teenage puberty. One anonymous poster writes :

My brother was skipped a grade to start at Telshe Yeshiva days after his bar mitzvah. The ROSH YESHIVA told my parents to keep him out of the dorms because his social awkwardness and young age would make him a prime candidate for s-xual MOLESTATION by some of the other boys.

Telshe, not Witts, not Fasman, not Frisch. Telshe. And we're not talking about masturbation, an essentially victimless crime, we're talking about s-xual exploitation.

From here.

I was a little freaked out after reading that post.

Isolated molestation incidents are to be expected in any environment, frum or secular. We all remember the high school teacher who was suddenly replaced mid-year or the creepy guy at work who spoke in double entendre or the touchy-feely fellow on the subway. That's part of life.

But here, this story suggests that junior high molestation is commonplace, almost like teasing or bullying, and should be taken into consideration when parents debate whether their child should skip a grade or/and be placed in a frum dorm setting.

Is that really true? It's hard to believe this story is not fabricated, but I can't think of a reason for someone to make up that kind of thing. Am I overreacting? Is this just a form of "experimentation" that all teenagers go through? Or has the world changed so much since I was young?

And, of course, why all the emphasis on female tznius? What is the point of all the flyers and shiurim if male-on-male sexual exploitation is this prevalent?

crazy, sex, tznius
