I spent a year in Crown Heights one week (nod to Twain). During that time, I was "taught" that gentiles have animal souls and only Jews have human souls. The rabbi knew that there were gentile proselytes and new Jews in the class when he said this. I remember thinking wow, my sister, who is my hero and a truly incredible, wonderful person who has helped so many people in her personal and professional life, only has an animal soul after all! Who knew?
Mainstream Orthos also think like this. It is repugnant. Can anyone wonder why there is antisemitism? I'm sure it would exist regardless, but why give gentiles a GOOD reason to hate us? Not only is it arrogant and despicable to even think such things, but it's also so foolish and reckless to state such things.
It's all very disallusioning.
As for the original question, why can't gentiles have the purpose to lead good, moral lives, pursue happiness and serve God in their own way? Why does their purpose HAVE TO intersect with the Jews' purpose? This kind of religious egocentrism makes Buddhism look more and more appealing all the time.
