pinkeuphoria1 It was almost lunch time when Kazuya woke up the following day. Nakamaru was in the kitchen cooking something to feed his guest, as he had decided to call the pet for lack of a better term, but the loud thud of someone falling off the bed called his attention. He rushed to turn off the stove and ran to the bedroom, though he had to search for a moment before his eyes fell on the figure pressed against the side of the bed, almost hidden under the blanket.
“Kazuya?” The young man had his cat ears pressed flat against his head and the hair on his tail was bristling, but he made no movement. Nakamaru swallowed nervously. “Is that your name? Kazuya? Can you understand me?”
It was common knowledge that some pets were not taught to speak, or understood only a few words and orders, as real pets wouldn’t be expected to understand humans. Nakamaru took a few steps forward, but the man recoiled with a hiss, so he stopped. The atmosphere in the room was tense, and he felt awkward, but couldn’t come up with anything else to do than keep talking to the pet.
“Do you remember where you were yesterday?” Finally, Nakamaru got a nod. “I picked you up and brought you here. You’re at my house. I won’t hurt you, I promise. You’re safe here.”
Nakamaru extended his arm slowly and opened his hand next to Kazuya, though he was careful not to touch the nervous pet. As a real cat would do, the young man stretched toward him cautiously, until Nakamaru’s fingers brushed his hair. Kazuya bumped his hand softly with his head, and when Nakamaru tried a tentative caress, the pet rubbed against the touch.
Nakamaru smiled.
“My name is Nakamaru Yuichi. You can call me Maru if you want. Is Kazuya your name?” The pet nodded. His eyes were dark and curious, but they moved quickly from Nakamaru’s face to his hand, still alert. “I have food. Are you hungry?”
Kazuya practically jumped up, ears suddenly perky. He followed Nakamaru with bouncy steps, though Nakamaru would have preferred the man had bothered to bring the blanket with him. Kazuya didn’t seem bothered by his nudity at all; and after a second glance, Nakamaru decided to worry about the bruises covering the skin and the protruding bones instead of the pet’s lack of clothes. Kazuya devoured two servings of soup and rice while Nakamaru watched with his nose wrinkled. The pet really need a bath.
That, however, didn’t please Kazuya as much as the food had. He followed Nakamaru happily into the bathroom, but he started struggling the moment the man put him in the bathtub and the water hit his body. The pet yelped and tried to bolt up, though Nakamaru managed to held him down. The bath was quite a struggle, with Nakamaru trying to calm Kazuya down without much success while the pet tried to run away; and, even though he finally gave up and accepted his fate, by the time he had stopped trying to get out of the bathtub, Nakamaru was just as drenched as the pet.
Kazuya made sure to put as much distance as possible between him and Nakamaru the moment the man finished drying him off, though he didn’t bother to take a second look at the clothes the man offered him. He made himself comfortable on the couch and soon he was asleep again, curled up on himself. Nakamaru sighed and covered him with a blanket before taking his phone out of his pocket. Time to make some calls.
The doorbell ringing woke Kazuya up barely an hour and a half later. The pet jumped off the couch, nervous, and anxiously followed Nakamaru to open the door. The stranger standing behind it was enough to make him recoil with a hiss, though. Nakamaru smiled apologetically, motioning the other man in at the same time he reached back to take Kazuya’s hand. He could feel Kazuya trying to pull himself free and get away, even though the newcomer was giving him a bright smile.
“Kazuya, this is Junnosuke Taguchi, he’s a friend of mine. He’s a vet and he’s going to check you up, but you shouldn’t be scared of him, alright? Let’s go to the bedroom…”
Kazuya made a small panicked noise and tried to pull away, but he was still too weak to put up a real fight against Nakamaru, and soon the pet was being pushed to the bed. Nakamaru held him down, frowning as Taguchi brought a few straps out of the suitcase he was carrying and proceeded to tie Kazuya’s wrists to the bed’s legs.
“Junno, isn’t this a bit too harsh?”
The vet smiled brightly, securing the pet’s ankles now. “It’s better like this; if he moves too much during the check up, he’ll end up hurting himself. It’ll only take a moment anyway.”
The vet smiled wide and bright, even as he pulled a pair of latex gloves out of his suitcase and slipped his hands inside. Kazuya was still struggling, making small desperate noises and looking at Nakamaru like the man could somehow save him. He petted Kazuya’s hair lightly.
“Don’t worry, Kazuya, it’ll only be a moment.”
“Well, Kazuya-kun, why don’t you open your mouth…”
If the bath had been a struggle, the check up was a real fight. Kazuya refused to follow a single order and actively fought Taguchi, even when the vet’s check up couldn’t be hurting him in the slightest. He checked on the pet’s pulse and his breathing, checked his mouth and pressed his fingers all over Kazuya’s stomach, feeling the colorful bruises that marred the pale skin. Most of them were already quite old, he said.
Eventually, Kazuya tired out from his struggle and stopped trying to break free, though he shook Nakamaru’s hand off his head with a pout every time the man tried to reassuringly pet him. Turning him to lie on his back was not even a problem, though they had to untie him and then tie him up again. Even though he had seemed to calm down, he had a fit again when the vet brought out the thermometer and a tube of lubricant. Nakamaru blushed to the tips of his ears after the thermometer slipped between the pet’s butt-cheeks, though Taguchi had to ask Nakamaru to keep Kazuya’s restless tail still. Taguchi took away the thermometer when it beeped and checked the temperature.
“He has a slight fever, but it should be enough to keep him warm and give him liquids to get rid of it, no need for medicines.”
Nakamaru nodded, though he was soon frowning as Taguchi slipped his fingers between the pet’s butt-cheeks again, after spreading some more lubricant on them. The young man yelped and tried to kick, despite the restraints reducing his movements to sharp jerks. Nakamaru could swear the pet’s eyes were shining with a couple of tears when Taguchi finally retired his hand.
“Was that really necessary, Junno?”
Taguchi kept smiling brightly as he disposed the used gloves and fished a new pair out the suitcase. “It’s better to make sure. Kazuya-kun seems to have been an adult pet, so you never know.”
Nakamaru felt himself grow suddenly paler, his hand still over the small of Kazuya’s back.
“An adult pet?”
Adult pets were promoted and sold mostly as sex slaves, and not all the owners were precisely caring with them. It shouldn’t have surprised Nakamaru, because they did make for the majority of the abandoned pets, but he found himself looking at Kazuya’s bruises under a new light. One he didn’t like one bit.
“I can’t confirm it yet. He doesn’t seem to be hurt beyond the bruises, anyway, though he has probably been in the streets for a couple of weeks.”
He fumbled with his briefcase a bit more and brought out a small scanner. Nakamaru watched puzzled as he swept it under Kame’s right butt-cheek, and then under the left. It beeped and displayed a long number in the small screen.
“Lucky! He has a microchip; they usually implant them there because the scar doesn’t show so much, see?”
Nakamaru had to lean in a bit to see the tiny white scar, just in the fold between the buttock and the thigh. Kazuya jumped with a whimper when he brushed his finger over it.
“I can save the number, and I’ll check his register back at the clinic. Maybe we can gather some information on him; previous health problems and who his owner is. As for now, I’ll take a blood sample and we’ll be over.”
Kazuya went crazy at the mention of the blood sample. Even though he had already stopped trying to fight them, he started struggling and hissing again when they untied him to lay him on his back again. Nakamaru had to hold his arm down, pin him against the bed, and the pet didn’t stop whimpering and trying to break free during the few minutes the procedure took. By the time Nakamaru could release him again, he was breathing hard with the effort of trying to keep him still. Kazuya scurried under the bed’s blanket as soon as his wrists and ankles were freed of the straps holding him down. The trembling lump flinched away when Nakamaru tried to touch him over the blanket.
“He’ll probably be upset with you for a while.” Taguchi said as he stuffed the blood sample carefully into his suitcase, setting the needle in a disposable bag and throwing the gloves into another already containing the previous pair.
“I’ll run the tests on the sample and check his chip number. I should be able to call you back with the results in a couple of days. Are you going to keep him with you? You could also take him to a shelter, but he will be more comfortable here. If he has been abandoned, you could probably adopt him.”
The lump in the bed shifted, and Nakamaru gently guided Taguchi to the door, saying he’d keep Kazuya until they knew about his owner, though he doubted he could adopt the pet. He wasn’t very sure how to take care of a pet, and with Kazuya’s background… he wasn’t very sure at all. The pet had got out from under the blanket when he came back into the room, but he refused to even look at Nakamaru for the remainder of the day. Nakamaru sighed, and ended up sleeping in the couch.
