You're such a pleasure to watch

I'm such a rock star! I had a great time at the concert Sat night. I chose not to drink so I could drive myself home and anyone else who may have needed a ride afterwards and also so I could just focus on the music. I was disappointed they didn't play "Where the Hell is Bill?" but what can ya do.

When I first got there I saw Fred and his wife Dana who are both Montessori parents as well as teachers. Dana is one of the middle school teachers and Fred is like subbing I think. I met Fred at one of the meetings or bday parties or something to do with the Montessori kids last year when he came up to me and introduced himself cause he'd seen me at the last Cracker show and the Violent Femmes as well. So we get along great -- similar tastes in music and all that. So I sat with them and we chatted while waiting for the band to start. Their friend Suzie was down from Haines and was sitting with them too. We had fun shooting the bull and waiting. I saw my buddy Gene, too, who's always at the shows and who is a big Cracker fan and his wife, whom I met at the Femmes show. One really old drunk guy with a super long grey beard came over to shake my hand and tell me I looked healthy. I told my table-mates that the drunk guys always come up to the biggest guy in the place and make friends. It's true. That happens to me a lot.

Once the music got started I got up and stood up near the front and when things really got cookin' naturally I started groovin'. Camper Van Beethoven played first. They were bang-on of course and played lots of old favorites and some stuff from the "New Roman Times" album that came out a couple years ago. I especially got into it when they played some of my favorites like "Wasted", "Take the Skinheads bowling" and "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and was dancin my ass off and singing along. It was great to be dancing near my pals from our table and also Gene's wife. Suzie was all kindsa cool. I loved the way she danced with her whole body, hands and all and didn't give a shit about anyone but the music. After the CVB set, they took a break and on my way back to our table this gal stopped me and introduced herself and said "You're such a pleasure to watch" and told me how the album Telephone Free Landslide Victory was a big part of her life back in the day and I said me too and she said it was obvious. Generally I just dance and get into the music like I don't give a shit but I have to admit it felt really really great to have someone notice me in just that way.

The Cracker set was great, too. "Eurotrash Girl" alone was worth the cost of the ticket. I sang my guts out. There were these three jackasses in the crowd near the front that were pushing each other around and normally that's no big deal but they kept bothering other people around them who didn't want to mosh or whatever the hell they were doing (it really wasn't moshing) and I was getting a little annoyed when they pushed around some of the ladies near me and I stared down one of them and he tried to be funny at me but I wouldn't give in and finally he went away. Eventually they pissed someone off I guess cause a scuffle broke out and finally the bouncer went over and when the song ended David Lowry asked the three assholes to go sit down and they woulnd't. So the band walked off stage. So all the bouncers went over and I guess the assholes finally left the floor and the band came back and finished the set. I got a kick out of watching a couple young white dudes with no rhythm whatsoever flop around spastically. Teehee.

After the show this guy came over to say hi and I recognized his face but couldn't place him and he knew my name and said his name was Sam and I still can't remember where I know him from but it was cool to talk with him a bit about what a great f'n show it was. So then I drove myself home since all I had to drink was diet coke, took a quick shower to get rid of the sweat and smoke-smell. Katy woke up and coulnd't sleep so we sat up together for a little while and watched qvc and visited while we both settled down.

My hearing is still coming back. My feet and legs aren't very sore, surprisingly. Good thing I wore my old faithful Doc Martens.
