In North America there is a wild critter called a "Pika". They are mostly a desert variety. Thery're like if a mouse and a praire dog, and a bunny for good measure, had a large love child. They have very large ears for a wild rodent and make a bark/cluck type noise when they sense danger. It does actually sound somewhat like the word "chu".
