Just a quick note to say that I officially have a page now on Archive of Our Own:
o2doko.
First I was on the waiting list for a while, and then I took forever to get around to uploading things, but it's up to date as of this morning. (And let me tell you, I am NOT moving 'Hours' anywhere again. Uploading that monstrosity takes forever. @_x)
Archiving all my fic was something of a weird process, really. I left out most of the old (re: bad) anime stuff, though I do have two TRC fics and that short Kuroshi haunting drabble up. And I didn't put any of the Harry Potter bits up, on some sort of weird undefined principle. All my Sherlock Holmes fic is there, though, which was actually something of a chore; despite my mania for organization, I tend to go through these weird post-modern phases where I decide whatever I've written should only exist in one place and then be deleted off my harddrive? Yeah, I don't know. But it meant combing through old communities in search of some of those stories.
And all the Speed Racer fic is up there. Weirdly enough, I think I'm proudest of those pieces, even though they've always had (and, I suspect, always will have) almost zero readership. They were written during a strange phase in my life, the period I identify as being the most stable and the most unstable simultaneously. I actually wrote 'Boundaries' while sitting in the hospital room my grandmother would later die in, trying to distract myself from the terse sound of my father's voice as he spoke in a hushed murmur to his brother in the hall. And this is the first time 'Verde' has ever hit the internet at all; it was written as a gift for a friend of mine, ages ago. I've never spent so much time on so short a piece, nor been so pleased with the outcome. No one but Sam has ever seen it before.
The most hilarious thing about this process, though, was that -- between the moment it was published and the moment I finished uploading for the morning -- 'Whither We Wander' (that short, ridiculous piece about John and Sherlock and the stray kitten?) had 58 hits and one bookmark. WHAT.
I suppose the moral of the story is that fluff trumps angst every time. Shame I can't seem to stop writing the latter ...
Now!
janeturenne was the only one sweet enough to leave me a prompt in the comment fic post, so I'm off to work on that. ♥
Happy birthday, AO3 page. May there be many more fics in your not-so-distant future.
