Supernatural 5x17

Demon butt kicking and loads of angst. Just the way I like my show.

  • It's funnier in Enochian
Castiel scored some of the most hilarious lines here ever and it's working amazingly well when it comes to the character dynamics. Sam and Dean can be all serious business while Cas undeliberatly makes for the comic relief. My personal favorite has got to be the voice mail welcome which in itself is really funny but followed by those beeps that indicate it took Cas quite a while to press the right button makes for pure hilarity. Oh Cas, never change, 'kay?

  • I can't count on anyone else. And I can't do it alone.
Sam. My heart's breaking for him. He tries so hard to make up for his mistakes and keep the both of them going while Dean's hope is dwindling and yet it just keep blowing up in his face.

Still, the role reversal works well here. It's good to see Sam matured. He's learned from his mistakes even admits to having been wrong walking away from all of this (and walking away from Dean 'cause we all know that's the elephant in the room right now). He generally works hard on making them a team again and I really hope they will be again, eventually.

In a way, Sam was where Dean is right now. They both do what they believe is the right thing to do. What the demon blood was for Sam, Michael is for Dean. A means to end the war and stop the apocalypse. And so the tragic hero goes down...

But making another deal, Dean? Because it went so well all the other times that posed the alternative? We all know conditions on those kind of deals usually suck. Let's hope this one won't make it all worse.

Also leaving Sam without even a goodbye with the intention to go offer himself to Michael? However true to the Winchester way, that's just heartbreaking cruel. Don't they see that moments like these are the perfect opportunity for a hug or a fist fight? Someone should point that out to the writers.

The Dean/Lisa part at the end felt a bit too much or rather random. Granted, it was hinted at how much she means to Dean in 3x02 and then briefly in 3x10 but just not enough for me to ascribe it that kind of importance.

  • The whore can only be killed by a true servant of Heaven.
As far as we know Dean hadn't said yes to anything yet, so why did it work? Confusion.

  • And on a shallow note. That green-blueish shirt Jared is wearing towards the end of the episode? I like. It makes his hazel eyes change color like a chameleon. Oh, and what's up with Jared's sideburns? They're expanding exponentially. Haha.
.

Also, subtle hints with the 99, yes? Can't wait for the 100th episode next week.
