The boys are back in town.
- How do you keep your lawn so green?
It kind of felt a bit like a whole new show, didn't it? It's like coming home after an extended leave and finding everybody's changed yet still the same. You're a bit sad and quite excited to get to know them again.
Practically respectable golfing soccer mom or not, Dean still gets the barmaid's number without asking. Good to know some things never change, haha. In fact, he's the perfect example that you can't run from yourself - your destiny. Just as he said, he never got out. His OCD-like checking of the house every evening, the pistol and holy water he keeps under their bed, the devil's trap beneath the doormat? You don't fool me, man. At times it almost felt like he's living someone else's life. Like this family (cause it's not the one he wants) is a reward he can't enjoy. Like he pretends to be happy because it was his brother's dying wish. Sucks for him. Also makes me feel bad for Lisa and Ben in a way.
While I get why Sam kept his return from Dean, was that really the best option? If anything, it seemed to have widened the riff between them. There is awkwardness and loads of it. Sam appears sobered, matter of fact and almost empty and robot-like while Dean now has a whole lot more to lose and a family to protect. Role reversal much?
The most awkward moment to me was when Dean offers Sam to take the Impala and Sam turning it down (again). A pure sentimental gesture? A cede to Sam to take over the family business as it was handed to Dean by John? Dean thinking it's the best moral support and help he can offer Sam at the moment? Sam turning it down because he doesn't want the memories that come with it? Or just the fact that he needs a faster more reliable car? Or wanting Dean to keep it so Dean has got something just in case? Can't decide whether not taking it was a good or a bad move.
Speaking of family, the Campbells were a surprise. I see potential, and hey, Mitch Pileggi and Corin Nemec? Who can I thank for that casting? I like. And tight-lipped something something twice removed looks promising too. Here's hoping that the new dynamic works out for the better once we've seen more of them. The Campbells do seem to have some dirty secrets of their own, though. I smell trouble. I imagine shady trades or experimenting on that djinn they captured. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark...
Side note: Possums kill. And what's up with Dean and yorkies? Inquiring minds want to know.
