Christian friends...please answer a question for me!

I have a question for anyone who is a member of a Christian church: Please help me out on this one. It involves a dilemma that transcends all denominations.

Call this part of my growing pains as a Christian. I haven't had any in awhile...but this troubles me a bit.

Here's the question: Why do churches want people to volunteer so much?

I mean, it seems ( Read more... )

Well you're part of an order, not just part of the Church. If you weren't part of the order you wouldn't really be asked to do all the work. I feel like you should've expected this when you signed up.

But anyway the whole premise of Christianity is grounded in charity/volunteering. So if you have the time and resources to help good causes its always positive to do.

Yeah, I know. Should have expected it. I didn't think it would be that intense. Hopefully the order won't kick me out.

I know that volunteering is paramount to Christianity...always have. I guess what I should have said is "Why do people ASK you to volunteer so much?" I feel if you are being asked you are being FORCED to volunteer. I always thought volunteering was pitching in without giving a second thought on your own free will. I can't volunteer much for two reasons 1. Lily. 2. Lack of talents and money. Other than writing and the occasional musical instrument I'm not that talented.

I don't know too much about the KoC. But part of being Christian is Charitable, and I guess being a part of it means doing a lot. I tend to view the KoC as wealthy people, personally, which could be a bad judgment on my call. And if that may be true, well you're different because of lack of funds, but that's not a bad thing! it just makes you different, and i don't think you should let this make you feel bad or anything to be honest. just do what you can, no matter how small, and be true to yourself.

And it's just not always about time and money to be charitable...a simple how is your day or have a good day to a stranger is also charitable. it's the small things ;)

People from the KoC come from all income levels, so that's not an issue. I just feel I may have stretched myself too thin in my converts zeal. Maybe I worry too much about money and think that is the be all end all of charity. But honestly, I don't feel I have much to contribute. What difference can I make?
