I am watching the Republican National Convention.

I am in tears.

Whenever they talk about our country's legacy, all I can think about is all the genocide this country has participated in, all the slavery and the oppression of women, all the profiteering and racketeering and the dropping of nuclear bombs on civilian populations and unwarranted wars, and it grieves me.  If we are the best country in the world, it is only because all the other countries are so much worse.

I want to change this world.  I want to change this nation.  I want to change this church.  I want the true God, the true Christ of compassion and love and justice and goodness to have a true place here, instead of the lip service He is paid in order to receive votes.  And I know it's not going to happen in America.

But maybe I can change this church.  I am desperate to change this church.  I don't know how the hell to do it.

christianity, politics, the american church
