Christmas survey!
1. Eggnog or hot chocolate?
hot chocolate. Though eggnog's not bad, especially if it's got a little alcohol in it ( ♥ whiskey, in small and controlled quantities).
2. Does Santa wrap the presents or just sit them under the tree?
Generally, my little sister wraps them. She's our designated wrapper. However, presents are wrapped in general.
3. Colored or white lights?
white lights. Or single colours. None of those crazy flashing and twinkling ones, though. Too gaudy.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
We have it growing on our trees here in Texas, but haven't actually hung it in a while.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
At Dad's, three days before Christmas (he's something of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas). But we did it the first weekend of December in my Mom's house.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Chupaquesos! Only a holiday dish because they are so ridiculously greasy (basically made up of fried cheese) and bad for you that I only make them once a year.
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
I'm drawing a blank. Maybe the time I, very enthusiastic, sang a song including cusswords (to the tune of "Old MacDonald", no less) on Christmas morning without knowing that it was a lewd song. I think I was around nine or ten years old. Details by request.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I don't remember ever not knowing it. But I don't remember very much earlier than seventh grade anyway.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Generally we do open one, but I've been putting this off until the morning last couple of years. This year, I didn't get many gifts. Just a bunch of cards with various stuffings.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I am the light-meister. Or I was until I moved out. Four colours of lights (white, red, green, and blue) wound about the tree and equally distributed so that you can have a single colour on and the tree will be completely covered or all of them on and the tree won't be overcrowded. I'm rather proud of my lighting technique.
11. Snow: Love it or hate it?
Love it. Don't get to see it often enough though (though more often than Hollie does, apparently).
12. Can you ice skate?
I can (sorta) regular skate... is the technique similar?
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I can remember quite a few things I received and was excited about over the years, but only one that changed my life (slightly overdramatic here): my first CD playing stereo and my first CD: the soundtrack to Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego. That album was my very first introduction to a lot of different kind of music: ska, enthused folk, power pop, whatever it is that Tito Puente played...
14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you?
The willful death and resurrection of Christ, without which nothing in Christmas (or life) would matter.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
There are specifically holiday desserts? As in real desserts, not candy? Are we trying to refer to fruitcake, here? I've only had that once, and I don't remember what it tasted like.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Singing songs of worship, praise, and celebration.
17. What is on top of your tree?
fake pine needles.
18. Which do you like best, giving or receiving?
giving. I do a lot of receiving from myself during the year, so I like to turn it around and get things for others. Now, if someone knows me really well and uses that knowledge to get something that I won't just enjoy but will also help me mature in Christ, that's a great thing to receive. If someone had gifted me with a pipe to smoke, I wouldn't mind.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
O Come O Come Emmanuel
20. Do you like candy canes?
Yes. Cherry and peppermint especially.
