If by "Church teaching" you mean the official position of the Roman Catholic Church, you probably know about that better than I, and I do not have the information to speak either way on the matter. So, no (from my experience). I am speaking of individuals (whether laymen or clergy) within the denomination who have a skewed view of her importance. I've known those who venerate her not much more than I do (and yet love God above all things), and known some who seem to almost place her above (or at least before) God (which is heretical, I am sure you will agree). If you were wondering, you have a view that is in between the two -- you have a high respect for her, ask for her prayers, and give God the credit for good things.

Just as I am not implying that disregard for the Bible comes on purpose from Evangelical preaching. Or disregard for love comes on purpose from John Calvin's writings. They are all similar mistakes, and come from the same source -- forgetting Who it is that really matters, and which part about Him that does. And the thing I really take exception to (and so did Christ, if you remember) is when we put our Catholic, Evangelical, or Calvinistic traditionsn above the commands of Christ, chief among which was "Love God, and love others."

There's a whole 'nother subject there with the "Love God, love others" thing: Christ wasn't asked for the second greatest commandment, only the greatest. He provided the second one, I think, to illustrate how important it was.

Peace and Grace,
Galen

That should be "the commands of Christ, chief among which was 'Love God, and love others' and the worship of Him, the Father God, and the Holy Ghost."
