[edit] re: stephen Lewis' Massey Lectures

I listened to the Lewis Massey Lectures at the perc fri evening...

It was stirring... I lost focus a few times, not following completely - my concentration - but it shows the seriousness of the AIDS epidemic in AFRICA, and goes into issues of -why- nothing is being done to correct things, or not enough, and how, the problem has been measured and weighed, and possible solutions on the table, but various countries committing to 'help' are finding 'back-handed- ways to do so, and undermining the REAL effort... which is why, if things don't change in the political realms, this tragedy may only accelerate... It went a little bit into the IMF and world bank, and this information was good, because it seriously from someone in the know...

Anyways, I didn't know much about the situation, but after hearing part 1, the first hour of the 5 part/hour lecture series, (which is free to download and watch - http://www.perc.ca/vols/pvn/05-05-06/ ) but we had discussions after the vegetarian potluck and listening, for those who chose to remain, which were fruitful... and put so many things into so much more perspective, I guess - well, people voiced their opinions, people who knew about it gave some examples to illustrate some ideas more clearly... all in all, I think it was some good stuff.

I plan to go to the rest... next one is this coming Friday, I think, the 12th? prob 6:30pm ... then the next one in three weeks... june 2 ?

Note to self: post some links to summaries of the lectures, ie at the perc here, um yeah and stuff.
making notes to self, because I'm friggin tired, and I'll forget about doing this if I don't put it here...

In other news ... did some apt searching, nearly cleared my kitchen table off of junk... hopefully I will do some more searching and organizing this month, so nearing months end, I will be prepared, whatever the outcome may be...
