Author’s Note: Sid, Nancy and Connor are desperately missing Abby. But a phone call to Abby's flat results in an awkward discovery that seems to be the end for Connor's hopes.
Connor sat alone in Lester’s flat, Sid and Nancy playing at his feet. He was thinking about her again. He picked up the phone, noticed the sign beside it, “Do Not Make Personal Calls” and punched in the number anyway.
It began to ring…
“Hello.” It was Abby’s voice.
He panicked. Ending the call he put the phone down and began to pace around the room. Sid romped over his feet, nearly tripping him.
“What am I going to do?” He asked the little dinosaur. The animal cocked his head at Connor and then turned to run back towards Nancy.
“Yeah,” Connor said, “that’s what I figured.”
He picked up the phone again.
“Hello.”
“Becker,” Connor asked, bewildered.
“Yeah, Connor is that you?”
“Um…yeah. Becker, where’s Abby?”
“Oh, she’s in the shower, mate. Do you want me to tell her you called?”
Connor couldn’t form the words…
“Still there," Becker prompted.
“Yeah, Mate. I…um…just…tell Abby…there was…uh…”
A commotion on the other end of the phone interrupted his stuttering. He heard a curse followed by a swatting sound and a flapping of wings.
“Sorry,” Becker said when he returned, “the bloody lizard landed on the bed and tried to attack me.”
“The…the…the…bed,” Connor just managed to get out before his throat went completely dry.
“I’ve got to go, I’ll tell Abby you called.”
Connor sat heavily on Lester’s sofa, crushing one of the “Do Not Sit Here” signs. The phone dropped from his fingers to land heavily on the floor. His head fell into his hands. As thoughts whirled through his mind in an incoherent tumble one crystallized and held…he’d lost her…to Becker.
“Who was that?” Abby asked as she peeked around the door.
“It was Connor.”
“What’d he want?”
“I don’t know actually. Rex was trying to eat me so I forgot to ask.”
Abby cocked an eyebrow at him, “He was not trying to eat you. He’s just being friendly.”
Becker gave Rex a skeptical look, “Yeah…friendly.”
He looked back at Abby and smiled, “Thanks for letting me stay here while my flat’s being renovated. I promise you, it’s just one night, I’ll be out tomorrow.”
“Yeah, that’s what Jack said and he stayed a bit longer. But the room’s free for now so you’re more than welcome to it. Just make sure to pick up after yourself.”
Becker nodded obediently, “Yes, Abby.”
“Goodnight then.” As Abby shut the door behind her, her thoughts were on Sid, Nancy and Connor. As soon as Becker was gone they’d all be back together.
“Come on Rex, let’s go ring Connor.”
