Sailing, Graduation, House-sitting and Road Trips

May 20, 2009 06:46

We got the hard bimeny up and installed on Wind Fiddler. Now when we do channel crossings we can sail with shade! Believe me it makes the 4-6 hours much more bearable and a lot cooler.

Went to Ross' graduation on Friday-- I can't believe he is done with his masters degree. The graduation was pretty cool for a graduation ceremony. The govenator delivered the commencement speech, which was probably wins the award for the most entertaining, most hilarious address ever. Also, apparently Biden was hanging around USC that day so it was crawling with secret service, police, and snipers (yes we saw snipers!). I think I paid WAY more attention to them and the ridiculous people around me (yay people watching!) than I did the actual graduation ceremony. It was strange people and big-hat heaven to be sure!

The "Meeting-of-the-Parents" actually went rather well. I would like to go as far as to say that they actually enjoyed each others company--completely unexpected but Im happy thats how the dice rolled. Ross' step grandmother wasn't charming, polite, or tolerable --as usual-- although I was thrilled she didn't have a complete meltdown. With her, its all about the small victories. She did mention to me later that she wished I were higher-class and that my parents had fixed the crack in our 60 year old 14 foot by 8 foot window. But if one fucking crack is all that she could find to complain about--Im just glad that it was the only thing she took as a personal insult.

My parents took off that night for Costa Rica (lucky bastards!) and Im holding down the fort at home. Its nice to have a reprieve from the parents and feel like an adult again. Thankfully I won't be seeing them again until mid-June. My sister is coming home on Thursday night to take over house sitting so Ross and I can take off for our Yellowstone trip.
