The little café they stopped outside was one that Jinki had frequented many times with Kibum and Jonghyun, so he smiled in recognition, the bells ringing as they entered. Jinki shivered as heat hit him sighing happily and breathing in deeply the warmth and delicious scents coming from the kitchen. Jinki’s eyes sliding shut for a second, his head tilting back as he inhaled deeply, the sound of a soft laughter made him open his eyes to see Minho grinning across at him. Instead of feeling like a fool, Jinki found himself smiling back, laughter falling easily from his lips.

Jinki was too happy, he didn’t really think about it - instead he went along with the light fluttery feelings flooding his body with endorphins and making him feel delirious happy. Never mind that it was bitterly cold outside - the day was as warm as the hottest day of summer, the air bursting with humidity, the sound of crickets and the sun beaming down at them, when Minho smiled across at Jinki, his fingertips brushing the bones of Jinki’s wrist lightly.

“Where do you want to sit?” Minho asked, blinking his eyes rapidly as he focussed on the smile Jinki sent his way, it was the biggest brightest smile he had seen, as dazzling as a colourful rainbow, rising up over the earth in a magnificent half crescent. Jinki just pointed, giving Minho the chance to look away and recover some of his senses, in all the times they had spent together he had never seen Jinki smile that brightly, it made his brain short circuit slightly, and Minho couldn’t help but gulp and wonder what it would be like if they did more than kiss, if Jinki’s smile had this effect on him.

Jinki pouted slightly when Minho’s hand let go of his, before he sat down in the little booth next to the window. The sky outside looked strange, it was a dull sort of grey, thick with cloud, but the way the sky looked had no effect on Jinki at all, instead he smiled as he glanced out the window, eyes flicking over towards Minho again. Jinki felt giddy, for once it felt as if everything was going right for him, he opened the menu carefully even though he knew exactly what was on it. But it was a chance to let his heart stop pounding in his chest, and he read the options through carefully, his eyes and brain focussing intently on each word as a way to calm him down slightly.

It worked until Jinki lifted his head, eyes meeting Minho’s across the menu. He felt the calmness flee instantly, Jinki breathed in deeply, turning to glance out the window and for the first time he actually noticed the dull sheen of the sky, making him blink in surprise because he thought the sky had been crystal clear not laced with thick clouds. Jinki shifted uncomfortably, as he glanced back across to see that Minho was still reading the menu, he was not sure what to say.

“Are you guys ready to order?” Jinki looked up to see the waitress, standing there with a notepad in hand, a bright warm smile across her face, “Oh hey Jinki-ssi, how are you?” Her smile brightened even more when she saw Jinki, he beamed back up at her, and Minho watched curiously.

“I’m good, how are you Eun Hye-noona? Did you finish your thesis yet?” Jinki leaned forward, curious and interested in hearing Eun Hye’s reply. “Oh sorry, I guess I should catch up with you at school? I don’t want to get you in trouble.” Jinki pouted slightly, pulling back slightly, turning to glance sideways at Minho, he smiled across at him, “Minho-ya, are you ready to order?”

“Yeah, we can order now,” Minho nodded his head firmly, unable to stop a slither of jealous wrapping itself around his heart, he wanted to know who this ‘Eun hye-noona’ was and why they were talking so closely and friendly, it really didn’t help that she was incredibly beautiful. “I’ll have the pancakes, thanks.” Minho curtly replied, finding he didn’t want to smile at the beautiful waitress.

“Okay,” Jinki grinned, “make that two, oh and can we get coffee, please?” Jinki turned to look at Minho again, “coffee is fine right?” Minho nodded his head, watching Jinki closely again as he turned to smile warmly up at the waitress before she left again. Jinki smiled across at Minho, until he noticed how Minho was staring blankly in front of him, “Minho-ya, are you okay?” Jinki finally asked, biting his lip as he studied the other boy’s serious face.

“I’m fine,” Minho mumbled, glancing up and then exhaled softly, “who was that waitress? Do you come here often?” He couldn’t help but ask, “Sorry I just wondered, you seemed so close to her.”

“Oh she’s a senior at uni,” Jinki nodded his head, completely missing the fact that Minho was jealous, “Kibum and I used to come here and study, she’d help us.” He nodded his head slowly, and Minho felt better hearing Kibum’s name mentioned. It made him realise there was so much stuff he didn’t know about Jinki, stuff he wanted to know about the older male.

“Oh okay, sorry hyung, I guess I’m just curious, I realised we barely know anything about each other.” Minho nodded his head, yawning softly, “Hey hyung, if I slept in your bed, where did you sleep?” Minho internally berated himself as the spoke, it had been bugging him but it wasn’t something he wanted to ask right away.

“I made a bed in the living room,” Jinki replied truthfully, “I had the spare bedding anyway, I just thought with you being so drunk you needed a proper bed.” Jinki’s cheeks began to redden as he remembered how the taxi driver had him helped carry Minho inside. Minho had been out cold, sprawled on his back across Jinki’s bed, he had looked angelic and gorgeous. Jinki had reached out to curl his fingers against the side of Minho’s face, but Minho had shifted, wriggling and stretching out so that his shirt lifted, revealing the smooth plane of his stomach. The soft trail of hair, just visible above the top of his jeans, and the muscular lines, made Jinki’s skin heat up and he had this desire to press his fingers down against Minho’s skin, and see if it felt as magnificent as it looked.

Minho stared curiously as Jinki went quiet, biting into his lower lip, as his cheeks started to grow red, making Minho grin as he wondered what exactly Jinki was thinking about. It seemed like Jinki had was lost in his thoughts, Minho watched his face curiously, the way his face turned beetroot red. Jinki had planned to take Minho’s jeans off, but pressing his fingers to the top of his jeans, it had been too hard, Minho had wriggled, rolling his hips up slightly so that Jinki’s fingers brushed his skin, the little moan Minho had let out was too much. Jinki gulped hotly, turning and fleeing immediately, he wasn’t sure what he would do if he had stayed in the room with Minho any longer, Kibum’s words echoing hotly in his head.

“Hyung?” Minho reached out and touched Jinki’s hand with his fingertips, “Hyung, are you okay?”

“I’m fine, sorry I was distracted,” Jinki mumbled sheepishly, opening his mouth to say more when a waitress, not Jinki’s noona delivered their pancakes. Jinki’s eyes widened when he saw the plate of food, his mouth watering, he realised just how hungry he was. “Thinking too much, sorry Minho-ya,” Jinki sheepishly looked down, picking up his cutlery to start eating the delicious pancakes, the smells wafting up at him were heavenly.

“Okay,” Minho nodded his head, “this looks so good,” he mumbled as he began to eat too. Both boys went silent as they began to eat the pancakes, just concentrating on eating. The rich taste of the berry compote, maple syrup and pancake was too delicious for either of them to think about anything else at that point in time. Jinki put his knife and fork down, reaching to take a sip of his coffee, eyes flicking across and he smiled when he saw Minho absorbed in eating, the way his eyes looked glazed over as if it was the most delicious meal he had eaten.

Jinki picked up his cutlery and began to eat again, the corner of his tongue sticking out of his mouth as he started to cut the pancake, but a flash of colour to the side caught his attention distracting him so that he slipped and his knife slid out of his hand, taking with it a slice of pancake and berry juice. Jinki paled as he met Minho’s warm eyes, the younger looked confused when he noticed the segment of pancake in the middle of the table, and the spots of berry juice, looking vaguely like blood in the middle of the table. Next to Jinki’s plate, his knife lay, surrounded with more berry juice spots. Jinki blushed feeling embarrassed as he retrieved his knife quickly, he held back a groan, trust him to be clumsy.

“Oops,” Jinki laughed softly, leaning forward with a serviette to wipe up the mess, “Ah I’m always making a mess with food,” He laughed again, hoping that Minho would laugh with him but instead Minho eyed him thoughtfully, which put Jinki on edge, he couldn’t help but wonder what Minho really thought of his clumsiness. Jinki dropped his gaze down to his food, deciding not to think too much at the moment and instead just focus on his food, he didn’t want to ruin the gorgeous meal set in front of him.

Minho exhaled softly, forehead furrowing as he saw the way Jinki’s gaze dropped again, the shimmer of something in his eyes that made Minho think of insecurity, and he just wanted to say something but Jinki’s pose and body language, the stiff way he held himself told Minho not to speak. He watched Jinki eat for a minute or two, before he started to eat again when he remembered that he was completely ravenous.

The silence stretched and Minho pouted slightly, realising that this date was not going at all how he wanted it to go. He wanted to say something but the slow, meticulous way Jinki was eating, it somehow felt rude to interrupt so instead he watched Jinki eat. The way he would carefully cut off a segment of pancake, and the thorough way he would divide the berry compote, just putting enough on each mouthful. Minho sipped at his coffee, and when he placed the cup down, he realised that he was smiling like an idiot again, it didn’t matter that they weren’t talking and he realised every time he made plans with Jinki they always failed. Together they always seemed to turn plans upside completely, and end up with something unexpected or different.

“Minho-ya, look! Look!”

Minho was startled when Jinki suddenly spoke and he jerked up glancing around almost sleepily until he saw where Jinki was pointing. Jinki’s eyes wide open in happiness, lips curved up into a bright smile, as he pointed out the window. Minho leaned forward, smiling as he realised that Jinki was pointing to the snowflakes falling. He grinned as he turned to look at Jinki’s excited expression, he was bouncing in his seat, eyes wide open and the smile across his face was so bright and happy.

“Aww do you want to go and play in the snow with me,” Minho asked with a tilt of his head, “hyung, let’s go and play!” Minho laughed softly, realising that he hadn’t given Jinki a chance to answer his question, but he figured it didn’t matter with the way Jinki was nodding his head eagerly, as if he had asked him if he wanted to win the lottery. Did it matter that they were grown men? As far as he was concerned - snow was snow, and if they wanted to pelt each other with snow balls then they would.

“I’d love to,” Jinki mumbled shyly, he had been aware of Minho watching him eat and it made him fidget slightly. But his excitement for the snow made him leave the seat eagerly, energetically moving towards the cash register where Minho refused to let Jinki pay. Instead he pushed Jinki’s wallet away, dark eyes telling him that it was his treat. Jinki pouted slightly, determined to give Minho some cash later for it, he didn’t like Minho paying for him.

Minho pushed the café door open, standing back to let Jinki out first. Minho couldn’t help but grin as Jinki practically danced out the café door, rubbing his hands together gleefully like some kind of snow sprite, dancing around to create more of the soft delicate flakes. As Jinki turned back to face Minho, he felt his spirits lift up from the bright smile Jinki gave him, his eyes shimmering like beacons in a dark night. Minho’s lips curving up of their own accord as he watched Jinki bounce around in the snow, it made Minho happy that it was snowing on Christmas day.

“Minho-ya!” Jinki stopped and pouted, hands outstretched to catch to snowflakes with his hands, he glanced up at the sky, unable to stop a grin forming as he saw the vanilla skyline, the soft white flakes floating down steadily as if Christmas gifts from above. “Minho-ya, I thought you wanted to play,” Jinki murmured softly, looking down at the snowflake melting on his glove, the snow rapidly melting into water on his palm.

“I do,” Minho responded and as Jinki lifted his face up again, Minho hit him in the side with a snowball, grinning when Jinki yelped as the snow hit him in the arm. Minho laughed so loudly and richly, that Jinki heard the warmth of a roaring fire in his laugh, filling him warmth and this desire to just cling to Minho. Instead he pelted Minho with a snowball - this was war!

In the early morning they played, their laughter floating down the street like music, and the snow continued to fall, sending glittery stars of happiness down into their open and eager hands. The cold never reached them, they were too wrapped up in playing in the snow. Until Minho reached for Jinki’s arm, pulling him in close to hug him, and Jinki stepped forward to hug Minho again, wanting to wrap his arms tight around his torso, instead Jinki’s foot got caught in the snow and he fell forwards knocking Minho onto his back on the snow.

In those short seconds the happiness that Jinki had felt shattered, an icicle falling and breaking into a thousand segments. Jinki quickly pulled back from Minho’s chest, feeling so guilty - Minho had paid for his breakfast and this was how he repaid him. Jinki’s eyes were full of worry as he helped Minho up, he hung his head down wishing for once that he wasn’t so damn clumsy. Things had been working out between them too, Jinki shivered and felt sick realising that once again he had ruined everything. Jinki opened his mouth to speak, but Minho grasped his arm lightly, leaning forward with wide eyes.

“Hyung, are you okay?” Jinki’s eyes opened so wide his eyes looked like they were about to fall out of his sockets. Minho leaned in closer, wrapping an arm around Jinki’s shoulder, half hugging him as he murmured, “Jinki-hyung, are you okay, I’m really sorry!” Jinki blinked his eyes his surprise, feeling something strange flood his chest, he felt dizzy and weird, this wasn’t how he envisaged it or how he imagined things would turn out. When Minho pulled back, whispering his name Jinki found it hard to accept the fact that Minho looked worried instead of angry. The way he nibbled on his lower lip, and his long lashes fluttered softly, made Jinki pause and wonder if he was delirious.

“I’m fine, I’m so sorry Minho, are you okay?” Jinki babbled in a hurry, “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to knock you over and after you paid for breakfast too. I’m so sorry.” Jinki opened his mouth to apologize again, but Minho leaned forward and pressed his lips against Jinki’s, his hand shifting to rest at the back of Jinki’s head. Jinki could see the butterflies, soft and fragile with rainbow coloured wings sifting in front of his eyes, dancing amongst the snowflakes as Minho’s slightly chapped lips slid against his. Jinki felt his insecurities and doubts melt away as Minho’s lips caressed and soothed him, the colours growing brighter and whirling faster in front of his eyes.

“Hyung,” When Minho pulled back, Jinki felt so dazzled and he swore that he could see shimmering confetti gliding down amongst the snowflakes, he turned to glance across at Minho realising that everything with so different with Minho. “Don’t be sorry,” Minho tugged him closer, “I’m fine, so don’t ever say sorry to me.” Minho shook his head and then smiled brightly, butterflies rising up amongst the snow surrounding them, as they flitted around them in an array of fabulous colours.

“But I hurt you,” Jinki pointed out, still giddy and blinded from Minho’s sweet kisses, he could feel his doubts slowly starting to disappear as he realised that there was something different with Minho. Jinki couldn’t put his finger on it, but looking at Minho he could sense there was a unique aspect to him. It wasn’t just his good looks or how intelligent he was, it was something about them together. Jinki cocked his head to one side, musing it over in his head, there was some kind of energy between them. Minho hugged Jinki tighter and he shut his eyes remembering the times he had spent with Minho.

“Hyung, you didn’t hurt me,” Minho murmured softly, “So don’t feel bad, you’re so cute.” Minho stroked his thumb across Jinki’s cheek, “I happen to think your clumsiness is cute - well up until the moment you hurt yourself.” He confessed, and Jinki’s stared in shock no one had ever described him falling as ‘cute’, stupid yes but not ‘cute’. He stared stunned until Minho just hugged him again, “Really anything you do is cute.” He nodded his head and just held Jinki in his arms, feeling Jinki’s heart beat, delicate like the flutter of bird wings against his chest. Minho just hoped Jinki knew what he meant - someone falling over wasn’t cute if they hurt themselves, but the way Jinki flailed his arms when he started to fall, it was somehow adorable on him.

Jinki shut his eyes, feeling the steady thrum of his heart in his chest, but Minho’s warmth made him open his eyes. He gasped, watching the snowflakes glide down, spinning around in circles from the wind so that they glittered and gleamed in the light. The still quietness of the morning made Jinki feel as if they were the only people left in the world. Minho’s words replayed in his head, making his heart leap excitedly around in his chest, as he continued to watch the snow dance towards the ground. All he could feel was Minho’s warmth and the beauty that surrounded them, the trees swaying softly in the light breeze, everything was dancing and he smiled as he saw butterflies spin delicately before his eyes, like shimmering jewels dancing in the sunlight. It was as if they had been transported to a magical winter wonderland.

Jinki pouted slightly when Minho shifted the warm against his side disappearing for a second, making Jinki shiver a little. He glanced up blinking to see Minho wrapping an arm around his waist, glancing up at his face Jinki felt something shift inside himself. Jinki had the sudden urge to rise up in tiptoes and kiss Minho across the lips, or grab his hand and run down the street with him. It was weird, as if being with Minho made him feel energetic, Jinki had the urge to try ice skating with Minho again. He blinked his eyes and frowned, wondering why he felt that way, why things had changed.

Jinki wondered if it was just that he was now used to spending time with Minho, but that clearly wasn’t it either. He had still been nervous that morning Jinki frowned, smiling when Minho reached for his hand and held it lightly. It felt as if something had altered in the last little while, as if him falling over that had somehow knocked Jinki out of a certain way of thinking. His fall and clumsiness, instead of making him feel insecure had instead filled him with confidence, which made no sense whatsoever Jinki thought..

“Hyung, are you okay?” Jinki turned to see Minho studying him intently, a small smile across his face and Jinki quickly nodded his head feeling light and happy. The way Minho looked at him, the way he smiled so tenderly at him made Jinki realise that it was Minho. He didn’t see Jinki as being just clumsy, or just one aspect of him. Jinki felt as if Minho could see all of him and understand it, like seeing the pieces of a puzzle spread across the floor and just knowing how they all fit together. Jinki grinned brightly up at Minho, standing up on tiptoes to kiss him softly, the sudden realisation making him bold. Jinki’s eyes shut as he kissed Minho, not caring if the whole world came out to watch them kiss, the way Minho’s lips moved against Jinki’s made everything fade away completely.
