“Why is this stupid fucking thing so damn difficult?”
Jinki blinked in surprise, hearing the raised voice coming from the other bedroom. It sounded like Minho’s voice, but Jinki couldn’t understand why he would be shouting. When Jinki had spoken to Minho an hour earlier, he’d said he was going to be reading in his bedroom.
“Fine! I give up! This stupid thing, it’s not worth wasting my time on.”
Jinki couldn’t help but grin, hearing Minho’s words. Knowing Minho, he would say that he was giving up, but then he would just keep working on whatever it was until he solved it. Jinki stood up from the couch, wondering if he should disturb Minho or not. It actually felt good to hear Minho shouting, because he didn’t usually raise his voice when it was just the two of them. Jinki usually heard Minho shouting along with Jonghyun or Taemin, and all three of them were headache inducing. But just Minho on his own was much more bearable and almost enjoyable.
“Hey.” Jinki stuck his head around the door, glancing towards Minho’s bed where Minho was sitting with his back to the door. “Do you need a hand, Minho-ya?”
Minho tensed a little, turning around to look at Jinki. “No, hyung, it’s okay. Sorry, did I disturb you?” Minho bit his lip, ducking his head down, until Jinki wanted to tell him to stop. “Sorry, hyung.”
“Not really,” Jinki said, shrugging even though Minho had turned back around and couldn’t see him. Jinki made his way over to where Minho sat. “But I wanted to help you,” Jinki murmured as he climbed onto the bed and slipped his arms around Minho’s torso, leaning up so he could rest his head on Minho’s shoulder. The way Minho stiffened a little as Jinki wriggled closer made him smile as he peered over Minho’s shoulder.
“Oh,” Jinki said and twisted a little so his lips were almost pressed against Minho’s shoulder, “a Rubik’s Cube. Minho-ya, really I can help you with that.” For some reason, Jinki felt proud that Minho was trying to solve it on his own, and he smiled, tilting his head to the side to study his bandmate’s face up close.
“But I wanted to do it myself.”
Jinki wriggled more, frowning as Minho looked away, hiding his face from Jinki. He wanted to turn Minho’s face back towards him, wanted to see what kind of expression Minho had.
“And what’s with this?” Minho asked, gesturing towards Jinki’s hands resting across his middle. Jinki figured he was trying to ask why Jinki was draped all over him. Admittedly it wasn’t something he did often, but walking in there, Jinki just had the urge to jump on Minho. Well, if he was honest, he always had the urge to attack Minho; he just usually suppressed it, because he wasn’t sure if he could control himself if he pounced on Minho. Today, though, everyone else was out, making Jinki feel relatively bold.
“Nothing. I just wanted to.” Jinki shrugged, separating his hands and pulling them away from Minho’s middle, until Minho grabbed onto Jinki’s wrists to stop him. “Minho-ya?” Jinki had thought Minho was asking him to remove himself, but now Minho’s warm fingers were wrapped around Jinki’s wrists. It was surprisingly comfortable, and Jinki thought he wouldn’t mind staying there forever.
“It’s okay. I don’t mind having Jinki-hyung on my shoulder and back,” Minho said, turning to smile at Jinki, his face so close that Jinki found himself staring directly into Minho’s eyes. Jinki stared at the irises and the soft, long lashes that framed his eyes, feeling his heart clenching in his chest. How was it possible for someone to be that good-looking?
“Hyung?”
Jinki swallowed, realising that Minho had spoken, and he lifted his chin off Minho’s shoulder, trying to ignore the musky scent emanating from him.
“Hyung, are you going to help me or not?”
Jinki blinked and looked down to where Minho held the Rubik’s Cube, his other hand still holding Jinki’s wrist. Warmth radiated up his arm from Minho’s grip.
“Yeah, sorry, Minho, I got distracted.” Jinki hoped he wasn’t blushing as he noticed Minho trying to look at him again, those large, gorgeous eyes focussing on Jinki’s face.
“By what?” Minho asked a moment later, and Jinki squirmed, glancing down at Minho’s body from over his shoulder. By what? Obviously the handsome person he was draped all over. Did Minho really want him to mention how much Jinki adored his eyes, and how pretty his eyelashes were, and how he could stare captivated at Minho’s lips for hours. Jinki coughed and placed his hands firmly against Minho’s stomach, before looking down at the Rubik’s Cube.
“Oh, you want to twist it right, that row,” Jinki mumbled, motioning with his fingers at which section of the cube he meant. Jinki watched as Minho followed his instructions and then sat there silently as he waited for Jinki to speak. Jinki breathed in deeply, telling himself to be calm.
Jinki continued to instruct Minho, pointing and lifting his fingers off of Minho’s stomach as he did. “You never told me why you’re trying to solve this anyway.”
“No reason. It’s just a challenge, I guess,” Minho replied, leaning back a little so his back pressed warmly against Jinki’s chest. Jinki nodded his head, leaning down and resting it on Minho’s shoulder again. He didn’t believe Minho’s words. No, there was definitely some other reason he was trying to solve the Rubik’s Cube now. Jinki knew Minho wouldn’t just be doing it to challenge himself, not when they were busy preparing for the comeback.
“Mm, really? Okay, turn it that way,” Jinki prompted, lifting one hand to shift the cube in Minho’s hands, and then he pointed left to encourage Minho to turn it the correct way. It was relaxing to lean up against Minho, his body heat sliding through Jinki’s shirt to warm his chest up and making him feel toasty warm. Unconsciously, Jinki slipped closer, wrapping his arms tighter around Minho’s waist as he leaned against him.
Jinki lost track of the time he spent telling Minho how to solve the puzzle. It could’ve been hours or only minutes, but he didn’t care because he was comfortable draped across Minho like that. Jinki blinked, feeling sad when he noticed that Minho was twisting the last row into place. He’d have to move now. Jinki wanted to twist the rows out of place again, just to prevent Minho from finishing.
“Hyung! We did it!”
Jinki glanced down when he felt Minho’s hand slip over his hand. Minho turned to look at Jinki, his face so close that Jinki couldn’t stop himself from staring at Minho’s lips. The way he smiled at Jinki made his heart drum wildly in his chest.
“Thank you, hyung. I couldn’t have done it without you.” Minho’s words were soft, but to Jinki, they were full of sincerity and happiness, and they made him feel like he was floating up towards the sky. He couldn’t stop smiling. Maybe we could sit here for a bit longer and just, um, admire the Rubik’s Cube? Jinki thought. He sighed. No, that was ridiculous. Jinki began to shift backwards, figuring he had helped and now he should go, but Minho grabbed his wrist.
“Hm, Minho-ya?” Jinki could feel his heart pounding as Minho’s fingers and hand slid over his wrist, bringing him back down to Earth again. Minho tugged Jinki’s arm back again, fingers pressing his hand back down against Minho’s stomach. Jinki glanced down at his hand, trying to ignore the fluttering in his stomach. He knew it was ridiculous to feel happy about the way Minho touched him, but he couldn’t help it.
“Minho-ya, you don’t want me to go?”
“Nope, we should celebrate.” Minho nodded his head, loosening Jinki’s arms around his torso before shifting his body sideways so he could look at Jinki. Jinki pouted at the loss of warmth and contact, reaching up to tug at his hair as he gazed over at Minho.
“Celebrate?”
“Yeah, hyung, celebrate. You and I, because together we solved this Rubik’s Cube. I think it’s something we should celebrate.” Hearing Minho’s words made Jinki frown; he still hadn’t worked out why Minho was trying to solve it in the first place.
“Don’t frown, hyung, just celebrate!” Minho urged, and when Jinki looked up, Minho’s face was close to his again.
Before Jinki could remind himself to breathe, to be calm, Minho’s nose was pressed against his, and Jinki could feel warm air sliding across his lips as Minho exhaled. Warmth flooded Jinki’s chest, and he felt jittery all over, wondering if he was over-thinking things again. Surely he was mistaken. Jinki’s eyes widened in shock as Minho’s head seemed to move closer. His heart was beating so fast that Jinki was certain it would fly out of his rib cage. And then Minho’s lips were soft and slightly damp against his, and Jinki couldn’t think beyond the feel of supple lips moving warmly and so damn perfectly against his.
Jinki’s brain almost short-circuited when he felt Minho’s tongue slide against his lip, and it was instinct more than anything that made him open his mouth a little. Tiny shudders ran all through Jinki’s body as they kissed, and he could feel Minho’s hands firm against his hips. Jinki found himself reaching for Minho’s waist, hands tugging on Minho’s t-shirt and clinging for dear life, as if Minho were the only thing holding him up.
“Minho-ya,” Jinki panted softly when Minho pulled away from him. He glanced down at Minho’s t-shirt, twisted up in his fingertips, too self-conscious to look up and meet Minho’s gaze. The words Jinki wanted to say seemed to flee from his mind; all he could think about was how it felt to kiss Minho. Should he be thinking about anything else?
“Hmm,” Minho murmured, his hands still resting against Jinki’s hips, his fingers sliding along the ridges and dipping under his shirt to stroke his bare skin. “Sorry, hyung, but I couldn’t resist.” Minho lifted one hand, fingers cupping Jinki’s chin, and he drew it up slowly so Jinki had no choice but to look right into Minho’s dark brown eyes. The way Minho was staring at him scared Jinki, but it also excited him to see the hunger burning in his eyes. Jinki wondered if Minho’s eyes mirrored his, because he felt so damn hungry for Minho. Everything was swirling around in his head… until he recognised something in Minho’s gaze.
“Oh,” Jinki breathed out loudly. He knew why Minho was trying to solve the Rubik’s Cube now or, rather he could guess. “You, uh,” Jinki said, pointing down at the Rubik’s Cube, “me.” Jinki blinked up at Minho, before cringing when he realised that none of what he had said made any sense at all. Jinki opened his mouth to say something else, but then Minho smiled at him and nodded.
“Yeah, for you,” Minho mumbled a second later, lips sticking out slightly, “but I didn’t do it myself, so it doesn’t count.” Minho exhaled heavily, and Jinki nodded in agreement. But it didn’t really matter that Minho hadn’t done it alone, because it was his intention that made Jinki’s heart sing.
“But why?” Jinki asked a second later, trying not to think about how Minho’s hand curled into his side. The way his fingers kept wriggling against Jinki’s stomach made it hard to concentrate. Imagining how Minho could slip his fingers further south made it even more difficult to think, though. No, he couldn’t think about that.
“Because you could do it,” Minho said, shrugging. “And somehow, I felt that I would understand you better if I could solve it too.” Jinki leaned closer to Minho, feeling his cheeks heat up as Minho’s fingers slid lower, almost slipping under the waist of his jeans. Jinki had no idea what to say, and it was hard to think of words with the way Minho’s fingers lit fires across his skin. Jinki gulped feeling the warmth slipping deeper into his groin, those fingers were magical.
He couldn’t help but wonder how Minho had known, how he had guessed how Jinki felt. Jinki didn’t think the Rubik’s Cube alone would tell Minho how he felt, which is why it made him happy that Minho had done it to try and understand what Jinki enjoyed doing. It made Jinki feel like Minho genuinely cared about him, and it made him feel special to see Minho trying to do something that Jinki had done, he wasn’t pushing Jinki into trying his hobbies but he was trying to understand Jinki’s. Was that normal? Even if it was, it really touched Jinki and made him smile.
“Oh,” Jinki murmured and untangled his fingers from Minho’s shirt, being brave and slipping one hand under the flimsy fabric. Maybe they could celebrate again, since solving the Rubik’s Cube together was something worth celebrating. They could celebrate when Minho solved it on his own, and then, um, celebrate something else.
“Next time I’m going to do it myself,” Minho said with a determined nod, and Jinki nodded his head too, a sudden thought occurring to him. He couldn’t help but shiver, unconsciously licking his lips as he sat there staring at Minho.
“And we’ll celebrate more,” Jinki whispered, hoping that Minho would understand as he slid his fingers along Minho’s stomach, the muscles tensing from the touch of his fingertips, “more than now.” He could feel the heat creeping up his body, and he was surprised that steam wasn’t rising from his skin.
“Yes.” Minho’s reply was a strangled whisper. “God, yes,” Minho repeated, and Jinki swallowed, looking right into Minho’s eyes and seeing the lust in them. Maybe it had been a mistake to say that, but the way Jinki could feel his heart pounding, he wouldn’t take it back. When Minho solved the Rubik’s Cube by himself, he would gladly celebrate any way Minho wanted. That thought sent shivers dancing down his spine as images of what they could do to celebrate filled his head.
Jinki smiled as Minho grasped his hand, warm fingers tangling around his. It didn’t matter that he didn’t know how Minho knew about his feelings; Jinki was sure he could work that out later. All that really mattered was that Minho did know. Breathing in deeply, Jinki sat there wondering how long it would take Minho to solve the puzzle alone. Part of him hoped it wouldn’t take too long. Maybe Minho could start on it now and get it done before anyone else came home? After all, they were alone at the dorm, and that thought made Jinki’s palms sweat as he glanced hungrily over at Minho.
“Minho-ya, was that all the celebration you meant?” Jinki bit his lip, leaning in close to Minho, his hand still stroking Minho’s stomach. Hopefully Minho wanted more too. Jinki cocked his head to the side, wriggling his fingers lower and watching the way Minho sucked in air desperately. He smiled, twisting his fingers another way, making Minho whimper.
“No… not at all.” Minho mumbled breathlessly as he shook his head.
Jinki opened his mouth to speak again, but Minho’s fingers danced across his stomach, and he struggled not to moan in response, everything slipping out of his head except for the touches gliding over his skin. Jinki let his eyes slide shut as Minho continued to touch him. His body seemed to have a life of its own when Minho touched him.
Jinki opened his eyes when Minho’s hand pulled away, but he could see the promise of so much more in his gaze. Shivers inched down his body as he stared into Minho’s eyes. Jinki felt feverish as he reached for Minho, his thoughts racing through what they could do when Minho solved the cube on his own and what they could do now.
Jinki was just so glad he had disturbed Minho and pounced on him. Before he could do anything, Minho was reaching for Jinki, pushing him backwards, and Jinki stopped thinking about what problems they could solve together (for the purpose of ‘celebrating’) and focussed entirely on the present instead.
It felt satisfying to finally be able to touch the one thing that puzzled Jinki and consumed his thoughts, while he still didn’t understand him completely, Jinki had a feeling that one day he would solve the mystery that was Minho. But right now he was just going to savour the way Minho’s mouth pressed against his, those lips seemed to drive everything thought out of his brain until he was devoid of all thought and could only concentrate on the emotions coursing through his limbs and only Minho blazed like the sun in front of him.
