Do you live to work or work to live?
I suppose there is an element of both phrases being true in this. My work is my life. I know it was my destiny (or merely a need to follow in Father's footsteps), but I think, deep down, I would have been drawn towards it even if it wasn't. Call it an overdeveloped sense of duty if you like. I have to be there to help protect the Slayers, and let them continue their work. So I research endlessly, remember everything I can, be ready with the information that they need, help train them. cover their backs, run their support network, train up new Watchers, and I try to be the Watcher they never knew they needed.
But it's also fair to say I work to live, for the simple reason that if I don't, the darkness could so easily rise up and consume us all, and from a purely selfish point of view, I have no wish to see that happen. I'm rather attached to being alive.
