The next few days seemed like a routine for Sungmin and Kyuhyun. Sungmin had acted as if the bullying incident had never happened, but Kyuhyun still felt guilty about it.
Sure, each conversation was still filled with Sungmin’s happy smiles and cheerful remarks but to Kyuhyun, it seemed unnatural and awkward. How can Sungmin be so nice? Kyuhyun thought. He didn’t want Sungmin to be bullied anymore. He didn’t want his best friend to get hurt any more than the bullying incident. Somehow, he felt a strange need to stop all the pain from reaching the cheerful boy.
One day, while they were doing their homework at Sungmin’s house, Sungmin became more and more anxious as to why Kyuhyun had been acting so different lately. Something was bothering his best friend and he knew it.
“Kyu, is something wrong?” The older male said directly. “Is something bothering you?” He asked again, but the younger male didn’t respond.
“Kyuhyun.. is this because of the bullying incident? Is this why you haven’t been coming up with new bullying plans?” Sungmin asked. Even though he wanted Kyuhyun to stop making all these pranks because they were hurting so many people, he was struck by the fact that Kyuhyun had suddenly stopped because he remembered how Kyuhyun wouldn’t give it up a few months ago.
Kyuhyun couldn’t respond, but it was true. Recently he had lost the urge to create new bullying plans but he couldn’t really explain why he didn’t feel like it because…well, he just couldn’t.
“I don’t know, hyung. I honestly don’t know…but please, don’t act like the incident was nothing, because you were hurt, and to me, that’s not nothing” Sungmin was about to smile when Kyuhyun playfully added “And I decided that if they can do it to you, they can do it to me as well… and I don’t want to get hurt.”
Sungmin then punched his best friend playfully.
“Ya! You could’ve lied for a little bit longer!”
”Hahahah~ Just kidding hyung…just kidding…”
”Humph. Right…whatever Kyu...”
”I was really kidding hyung…”
”Okay fine…hmmm…kyu…promise me that you won’t do such pranks again…” Sungmin’s face suddenly became serious and Kyuhyun’s smile faded.
”Hyung…I won’t let them hurt you again…Don’t worry...”
”It’s not a matter of me getting hurt Kyu… do you even realize that the people who got bullied using your ideas suffered the same thing as I did?! If I didn’t get hurt… would you even realize the pain those people are undergoing all because of those kinds of people and you kindling the fire they have inside?”
It was with those words that brought Kyuhyun’s head bowed low. He knows he didn’t really care, he knows that what the other is saying to him is true, he didn’t really care before Sungmin got hurt.
“Sorry hyung… I really didn’t know”
”I didn’t know too… that’s why I’ve let them do those things to me…”
”So now it made sense, because I used to think that those people were not that strong enough, judging from the physique of the people you fought before, they wouldn’t have left you even a scratch”
“It is all part of the plan Kyu… I just had to witness how brilliant my best friend’s works are”
”You’re making me feel guiltier hyung…”
”Hahahaha~ I intended to do that…” Sungmin looked at Kyuhyun and saw the other guy pouting at him. “I was kidding Kyu.. just kidding…” Sungmin leaned over Kyu’s shoulders and squeezed the others hand.
“They hurt people Kyu, and I don’t want you to become an object of their wrath… I can’t let them hurt my best friend just like that… So stay away from trouble…”
”It’s okay for them to hurt me as long as they don’t hurt the ones I love”
”Awww. That’s so sweet of you… gotten into any drug recently?” Sungmin jokingly said to his prank maker best friend. The other looked at him with serious eyes before pouting childishly for the second time around.
”Ya hyung! I am being serious here!” Sungmin smiled before standing and making his way to his bed. “I know Kyu.. I just wanted to lighten up the atmosphere… it almost felt like you would confess to me any minute a while ago!”
Kyuhyun blushed lightly before turning his back to Sungmin.
“Of course I won’t! Why would I confess to you? You geek!”
”Ya!! What did you say?!” Kyuhyun was about to retort when suddenly, he was strongly hit by a pillow on his head. Turning around, he saw Min standing on the bed, one hand holding another pillow and another placed on his waist. He looked at the other man’s face and saw it full of mischief, he grabbed the pillow the other threw at him and stood up from his chair. Sungmin smirked at him and he stuck his tongue out before launching another attack.
Kyuhyun grabbed one of his pillows and pounced onto the bed. He was hit quite a few more times until he fell onto the floor again, with Sungmin standing triumphantly over him.
“You were never good at pillow fights, Kyu~” His best friend exclaimed. Sure, he was never good at these games, but the prankster in him thought of a way he could win this pillow fight, just this once.
“Ahhh~” Kyuhyun groaned and shut his eyes, clutching his wrist. His best friend immediately rushed to his side and sat the groaning boy up. “Are you okay, Kyu? What happened?” He held the younger boy’s wrist. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Let me get some ice!” Sungmin started to run to the fridge when he felt a hit on his head. He quickly turned around to see his best friend smirking.
“Looks like I won this fight, huh Sungmin?” Kyuhyun called out from the top of the bed. Sungmin immediately rushed to him and slapped the back of the younger boy’s head. “Aish~ you really scared me there!” He complained.
Kyuhyun, satisfied with what he did, placed his arm around the older male’s shoulders. “I just wanted to make you smile, hyung~”
“Thank you, Kyu~” Sungmin smiled. He had wondered why there was no answer from his best friend. Worriedly, he turned to face his best friend. He ruffled the prankster’s hair.
“Only Kyuhyun would fall asleep without finishing his homework.”
