Reasons my brother is awesome, part II (an ongoing series)

Today, I answered the phone at work:

Me: "[place of work], this is Julie."
Voice: "Hello."
Me: "..Hello..."
Voice: "I wonder if you can tell me where to get information about [thing we have to tell people about alllll the time]?"
Me: *enters into well-rehearsed spiel, which she has to give probably 4 times a day, answering various questions from caller who seems to have a slight accent*
Voice: "Well, thanks, JULIE........... you know this is your brother, right?"
Me: "AUUUUGH"

I don't know how he did it; apparently the big pause at the beginning was him taking a few deep breaths so he could do it without laughing, plus he'd rehearsed his accent before he called.

I considered waiting until he was working at the bookstore and calling to make him look up something like The Pop-Up Kama Sutra or maybe "a book about my favorite Pokemon character, Machu Picchu," but realized that there was NO way I could keep a straight face for that long.

Then about 10 minutes later, he called me back and offered to take me out to lunch! :D He knows I go to Barnes almost every day anymore and he was right across from there, so we met up and had a lovely lunch. It was also amusing having a bit of a literary discussion with him in the discount section, the most amusing part being:

Brion: Did you read this one? (pointing to The Metamorphosis)
Me: Yeah, and I HATED it. The guy turns into a cockroach.
Brion: COOOOOOL!

He's really blowing me away with his book choices lately. First off, the idea that a kid who never read a book by choice is even CHOOSING to read is amazing, and secondly, he's reading classics like Dostoevsky (blowing through all of his books too) and The Count of Monte Cristo, and also finding really interesting things like Into the Wild. I'm just terribly impressed by his desire to delve into serious works and learn about things!

That, and... I think he actually ENJOYS hanging out with his sister. :D Because he asked me what I was doing tonight, and he's going to come over so we can watch The Fountain. :D

books, family, amusing
