....

- I have the "I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates" song stuck in my head. The problem with this is, I only know one line. Very frustrating.

(Ok, I just looked it up, it is in fact called "Brand New Key," and at least now I know the entire first line of the chorus.)

- Last night I watched Shopgirl, the film based on Steve Martin's novella. It was quite good, and now I want to read the book as well. It's a quiet, well-acted movie, with some interesting cinematography. I tend to really enjoy things Steve Martin has written-the other example being the play "Picasso at the Lapin Agile."

I would like to share the conversation which just took place on IM:

Julie on IM: would you have guessed that in order to view the world map in final fantasy II, you have to press B + SELECT? i mean, they never explained it, they just gave me an item that when you look at it in the inventory it says "allows you to view the world map"
Julie on IM: B + SELECT is not exactly something i would have thought of. i had to do an extensive search online to find out how to view it
Kim on IM: okay.
Kim on IM: wow
Kim on IM: I love you and I just want you to know that before I tell you that you are probably one of the biggest geeks I know.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I am very proud of my geek status. I won't be winning any geek wars or anything, but I'm a big enough geek to know the Fibonacci number sequence (thanks Dad), participate in discourse on the finer points of various Star Trek series (plus Stargate, Doctor Who, and one of my faves, Special Unit 2), and to be amused by this (read the ALT text/put your mouse over it for greater amusement - right click and choose properties to read the whole thing).

....

Current gaming status: FFXII - about to head south to visit Jahara. I think I'm suffering from a bit of what some people have said online; the mechanics of the game are lovely but the characters and story aren't as compelling as in some of the previous games (for me, particularly FFX). *shrug* I am zipping through a few of the post-Dawn Shard side quests and then I'll head back to the actual story. FFII - I'm enjoying this more than FFI for some reason. I've just gotten back to Altair with the mythril and then I think I'm off to Bafsk. It's fun playing these games on the DSlite, plus I can take it anywhere! (I still say B + SELECT was an odd choice for the world map, particularly as I don't think SELECT does anything on its own... why not just use that??)

Okay, random geek post over with. Life is good. :D
