There was nobody here (I was all by myself)

Welp, I'm on my own for the next three weeks now that Bryon has left for annual training. At least he's just up at Drum and not in Germany or Louisiana like in previous years. It's a really basic, easy three weeks of training (he says) and he is able to stay in contact with me-occasional calls, plus we added a feature to our phone plan that lets us send unlimited txt/picture/video messages to each other. So that's been fun.

The entire week prior to Bryon's leaving was a whirlwind of entertaining Mike, getting Bryon ready to go, and surprisingly, hanging out with Josh who was in from L.A. for his dad's 60th birthday. On Thursday Josh was over until 4 in the morning playing Magic with Bryon. Ahhh, the good old days. It was really nice to see him, and as it turns out he and his wife will be moving from L.A. to Orlando, making the possibility of a visit that much greater.

I took Friday off because Mike and Bryon were both leaving that day. Mike had a good start to his journey, but after getting to Detroit, his flights were cancelled due to weather so the airline put him up in a hotel room and booked him a first class flight for the next day. Heh. Bryon, too, found his plans a little altered. I drove him to the armory, then found out he'd get out that night, so I called Sara and we went out to dinner at the State Street Diner, then eventually picked up Bryon. He and I crashed at Sara's and then I took him back in at 7 a.m.

After that, I drove home, took a brief nap, went shopping for the baby shower later in the afternoon, walked in a parade with the Sister Cities Association (beside their really impressive festival cart), went to said baby shower* where I saw a couple of friends I hadn't seen in years, and finally I returned home. Just a little bit later, Kim showed up at my door and we ended up hanging out til about 11 p.m., which was also fun.

Sunday was a more relaxing day... Josh and Kim and I planned to meet for lunch, and they surprised me by picking me up in Josh's dad's Porsche. Needless to say, a) it was my first ride in a Porsche, and b) the back seat is not intended for an average-sized human-my (average-sized) butt didn't even fit properly in the seat and there wasn't really enough head room either. Still, it was pretty entertaining. And so was lunch.

Now I'm just getting used to being at the apartment by myself for a bit. Mostly it's involved lots of KH2 and a bit of reading Eldest. Tonight is the Scout picnic, so that should be fun.

Life is a lot of things, but it's never boring.

* Any ideas on the significance of a baby shower centerpiece involving a tiny baby frozen in a block of ice? Perhaps (as the ice is melting throughout the shower) it is meant to represent that the baby will soon be born/freed of the ice? I dunno.

video games, friends, books, kingdom hearts 2, bryon
