002 -- One Song, a Song About Love...

So. Here we are again. Valentines Day. That overly commercialized holiday revolving around pink and red hearts and chocolates. All lace and frills.

Used to be as good an excuse as any to celebrate. Any holiday, didn't matter... we'd all get together, go down to that same pub. Order a round of beers, chips and dip, when we couldn't afford anything else.

Rebecca used to love Valentines Day. She always made a point of getting me the least-flowery card she could find. She never bought into the commercialism. She cared more about what the holiday was supposed to be about. Love. Family, friends, any kind of love there was. Always broke her no-extra-sugar rule with the kids, and gave them each some chocolate. But she did it because she wanted to, not because she was raised to expect it.

I got her a card 'cause I wanted to. Always made her smile, like she'd never gotten a card before.

She'd probably find a way to make it special, even with the way things are now.
