The world feeds on shock and sadness. If someone truly lived happily ever after, would they advertise it?

Just - you can be happy, and still wish you knew how to play the trumpet. Or develop more fuel-efficient cars. Yearning and growth don't need adversity to happen, and they don't mean things are less happy.
