Good. I'm glad it worked for Sally's aunt.

My GOD, I didn't say any of those things.

Kate's handled my PR for over a decade, though, I trust her.

Between you and me, my perfect community would have considerably fewer child brides giving toasts to their husbands' sexual organs.

And, crud, I was supposed to talk to Kate. I'm sorry.

I kind of thought this would blow over and she'd be a grownup about it.

You don't do anything wrong. She's just being a -- never mind.

I just need to figure out how to have this conversation. How do you have this conversation?

Sorry, I shouldn't be asking you. It's not fair.

I'm sorry I broke your heart, but I'm happy that I did it, please don't stop being my friend, and also don't quit your job because I'd be totally fucked without you?

That conversation?

I've been honest.

I don't know what to tell her that I haven't told her.

It's like she wants me to say something that's going to hurt.

Hey, it's fine.

It's not your job to help me deal with my not-even-ex- girlfriends. And even if she wasn't giving you a hard time --

You know, I bet that's what this is about. She's being a bitch to you so that I'll have to talk to her. Because she knows I'm capable of leaving the issue hanging forever, otherwise. Because I did it to her for years.

I'm really sorry you have to go through this. At least -- it's an educational experience in my character flaws?

I want the outcome to be that she doesn't stop being my friend. Or quit.

Christ, you know -- what this comes down to is that Kate isn't used to not being the most important woman in my life. And considering I've been married twice since I met her, that possibly doesn't reflect too well on my relationship history.

Sorry.

Of course you are the most important woman in my life.

If I bought Kate flowers, I think she'd hit me. I'll just tell her to grow up, and I'll probably have to suffer through some stories about the 23-year-old Brazilian she's screwing, but the thing is, if she was going to leave me over this, she would have left. Right?

Why would you need to buy Jean-Paul flowers?

I think that's smart. You also make me realize I've been a lot better telling you how to deal your friends than doing the same with my own. Anything else I ought to know, while we're at it ( ... )
