When it's Gwiboon's turn, her whining takes on a whole new pitch and her temper becomes the shortest fuse in recorded history. She's always been emotional, everyone knows that, but on days like these, even the smallest things can set her off. Taeyeon might forget to straighten her shoes when she comes home, or she might forget to do the dishes after lunch, and it is all Gwiboon can do not to blow up at her girlfriend. She knows that the younger girl isn't doing it on purpose, but she can't help the tension that gathers in her shoulders and the tears that cloud her eyes as she fixes the crooked line of shoes on the mat or finishes up the dishes and puts them away. Taeyeon can be a bit of an airhead, even she knows, and despite her frustration, Gwiboon will finish it anyway.
Sometimes though, a thousand and one of these little things will overwhelm Gwiboon, and then all hell will break loose. She will yell and scream until she's red in the face and it's almost hysterical, until her voice is drowned out by the tears cascading down her face. That's when she becomes quiet, staring at anything other then the target of her anger. That is when Taeyeon knows it's safe to move from where Gwiboon caught her unawares, where she sat or stood silently and patiently. Sometimes it's not even her fault, but she doesn't fight back when Gwiboon blows up (at least most of the time) because she knows the older woman needs to get it out of her system, and only once it's gone quiet does she apologize.
She'll spend the rest of the night pampering her with whatever herbal tea has caught Gwiboon's interest this week, and they'll watch the romantic comedies Gwiboon loves so much. Taeyeon might rub her abdomen or her back, or they might just snuggle on the couch under the same blanket, because Gwiboon is more clingy when she's upset, and that is alright with Taeyeon.
Then the day will come when she's back to her normal self and Taeyeon will wake to the smell of coffee or breakfast, depending on who works earlier. She'll throw on a robe and pad into the kitchen to slip her arms around the older woman's waist, giving her a proper good morning kiss. "I love you," She'll whisper, and Gwiboon will smile and kiss her cheek.
"I love you too."
When it's Taeyeon's turn, Gwiboon will only know because Taeyeon will become unpredicable. She has always been a social butterfly like Gwiboon, though nowhere near as loud, but on some days she wants nothing to do with anyone. She will smile and nod and reply to those she does talk to, because of course she can't avoid the whole world for a week, but there's a terseness to her voice, a stiffness to her shoulders that makes it hard for her to smile as often as she usually does.
Sometimes she'll pull away from Gwiboon in the night, or she might kiss her reluctantly, and Gwiboon tries not to be hurt by this. Sweet Taeyeon isn't like this. And Taeyeon will always apologize then, not now, Boonie, please, and the darker-haired woman knows its time to take a step back. Even when the younger woman comes limping out of the bathroom, a grimace on her face, Gwiboon has to remember to wait, because Taeyeon is unpredicable. She might be in pain, but that doesn't mean she wants to be coddled. So Gwiboon waits until she hears the soft call of her name, but if she doesn't, she lets the other woman be, even though it's hard for her to do so. Too many sudden explosions have been imprinted on her memory.
This is the only time Taeyeon will cry.
Gwiboon is the emotional one. She cries all the time.Taeyeon never lets herself cry, never willingly. She hides them somewhere deep in her heart. But when these days come sometimes she can't help it. Gwiboon might come home to find the younger woman curled up on the floor, a broken dish at her feet, or shaking in the middle of the night, curled around one of their pillows.
It breaks her heart to see Taeyeon like this, but it's all apart of life, of preparing for something that may never come, and there's nothing they can do to change it. So when Taeyeon reaches out for her and buries her face in the older woman's neck, sniffling and mumbling about how it isn't fair, Gwiboon just rocks her gently back and forth, petting her hair and shushing her. "I know," She murmurs into Taeyeon's hair, "I know."
