4. 'u-know time (maaaaaaaaaax)'

ha, so I will attempt to make today's post less morose than yesterday's by talking about something that has brought joy to my life for the past two days, and that is the MV for "왜 keep your head down."

so like, granted, i was pretty annoyed that it seemed SM was using SJ's moment at the gayo festivals to promote DBSK, but whatever, i was still sad that they didn't win the daesang, so i couldn't muster the strength to be fully irked. besides, it led to a hot rap and enjoyable remix, so whatever. then i saw how many backup dancers they were using to fill up space in the video and i was like :|.

but i watched the video again tonight, because i realized that i apparently spent the whole first view reading the english subs, then the whole second view reading the korean subs, because the third time around i noticed things i hadn't noticed before. such as, max is seriously adorable. i don't think his face is terrifically sexy, but he looks really fierce. i always liked DBSK, and i always knew u-know was hot, but i didn't realize max could pull off puffy-sleeve blazer with no shirt. i see why they have such a big fanbase. they're hot, good at making dramatic faces (also, singing), and they each get way more facetime than any member of SJ, even back when there were more of them. ~shrugs~ interesting, but i was really unamused by the safari outfit lion-tamer act that made up the trailers, so i didn't have high hopes. however, i think the song is catchy and very... manbitchy. which i enjoy. and the video alternates (sometimes split-second) between being really hot, and really lolworthy, which i also enjoy.

my favorite parts (for posterity):
1. the 'maaaaaaaaaaax' background after 'u-know time'
2. '나는 keep it low 나는 나는 keep it low'
3. omg, i lose my shit everytime max says 'i'm just chillin' feeling like i'm healin' (a villain?)
4. hello? guys? some 1970s native american-themed pimps called, they want their suits back. wtf was everyone involved with this thinking? capes are good though.
5. things got seriously slashy there towards the end, and then i lost it with the like... captain planet moment where 'by their powers combined...'
6. i'm going to give my meaningless two cents on the lyric controversy and say that this song (to me) reads more like a pissy rant at an ex-lover than a commentary on the group's (could-be) breakup. the last line was questionable: 'it's all erased, you're gone, in my heart, you're dead, you don't even exist now.'
