Sofia Coppola + Japan, I love you

I saw Lost in Translation again today, this time as a 21 year-old.

It captured everything I've come to like about those spots of travel alone-time: the restlessness of the first night in the hotel room, the yearning to go walking about the city when jet lag kicks in (but not being brave enough to go beyond the elevator), and the stilling effect the blinking nightscape has on the mind.

I wish I could write about that time in Poro Point or those insomnia nights during debate tournaments and that lonely time in London. But I get writer's block every time I try to approach those stories. I reckon it's my jealous subconscious telling me to keep it to myself like a secret stash of jellybeans. Or gummy worms, you know?

So to fill the awkward silence, here are my pickings of IMDb movie trivia:

Sofia Coppola designed many of the shots for the film by taking a series of photographs throughout Tokyo and then recreating them with the cast and crew, using the photos as references.

Bob and Charlotte never introduce themselves to each other.

Filmed in 27 days.
