Hinderburg: A town whose explosive growth has thoroughly engulfed the nearest highway, with no bypass provided (or, having provided a bypass, the town has continued to outgrow it and has negated its benefits). In the state of Virginia, for example, Charlottesville is a significant Hinderburg on Route 29, whereas Culpeper is not.
