Kenny's thoughts on dieting:
So the brain is an incredible incredible thing. It controls every action, twitch, involuntary muscle, desire, fear, and feeling. So, this powerful tool is definitely the key to good dieting and I'll tell you how, not that I diet at all, but here it goes anyway.
Often times dieting is destroyed when a lack of will power arises. And after the diet is broken, justification starts: I already broke it whats the point.... whatever
So how does a diet actually work? How can it win?
The key is the brain. Humans have a very predictable pathway to action.
It all starts with thought, thoughts are fleeting things and almost anything can trigger them. Images, sounds, feelings, smells... all the senses. Thoughts are not dangerous alone, they are natural and sometimes cannot be avoided. However since thoughts often are triggered by sensory sensations, it is possible to prevent thoughts, in the case of dieting thoughts of unhealthy food, by avoiding situations that could potentially trigger them through sensory detail.
Generally, on the pathway to action, thoughts don't go away. That is step two. The thought stays stuck in the brain and you dwell on it. "Man, that looked so good... I really do like pizza... I wonder what kinda sauce it has on it?" The thought starts bouncing around and it gets harder and harder to get rid of it. Dwelling on thoughts enforces them in the brain and strengthen the amount of binary electricty and energy going to it. It is still possible to get the thought out however, don't be weak sauce.
Step three, dwelling on thoughts leads to desire. Thats where trouble really starts: "I want that pizza so bad... that sauce is my favorite and i want to taste its scrumptious goodness" The desire has festered like a weed and now it is stuck in the brain as a recognizable positive objective (whether or not the object is positive or negative doesn't matter, the brain is easily twisted, especially by itself). Desire is dangerous because it becomes harder to get a desire out of your head than a thought to put it simply, basically because now, you want it.
Step four, desire leads to action. "I'll just have a bite" Action is the endpoint of the pathway, often after action takes place the cycle can rewind to step 2. There you have it...
Now its possible to stop this process all the way up to the last step, it gets harder and harder, but its always possible. This is the most important process in humanity to understand the way the brain works on simple terms. Thought, dwell, want, do. The cycle can take place in three seconds or three hours. Eventually that is why we do pretty much anything. Recognizing this makes it easier to diet...
It also, if applied to something besides dieting, realizes the importance of controlling our thoughts and particularly controlling what we put into our brain in the first place. Think of it this way: if a song is catchy, like really catchy odds are you will end up singing it.
