The last thing Robin heard before she hit the icy water was a high-pitched, blood-curdling scream. The moment the bullet had hit her and she began to fall off the Going Merry, she knew she was going to die. The ocean rejected those who had eaten the cursed fruit, and Robin had joined their ranks at the age of eight. Many times she had regretted having her powers, but in the past few months she had come to terms with it. For it was because of those powers that she had met her nakama, the best friends she had ever had.
As Robin sank down into the depths of the ocean, she had only one regret…
Nami saw everything. The Marine ship had pulled up and opened fire before she could warn everyone. She saw the gunfire tear up the ship below where Robin had been standing, and, she despaired, Robin herself. She heard a scream as she fell into the ocean, but it might have been her own. Nami forgot the attackers instantly and jumped off the ship after her dear Robin.
The freezing water felt like a million knives stabbing her everywhere at once, but she kept on going. She dove under, and forced herself to open her eyes despite the stinging pain. After what seemed like hours, she finally saw her and pulled her to the surface. She took one look at Robin, taking slow, shallow breaths, but breaths all the same, and instantly forgot her own pain.
Robin opened her eyes to Nami and realized that she didn’t have to say goodbye to the one she loved quite yet. She leaned up and gave her a kiss, feeling like the luckiest woman alive.
