Let’s do it again, Baroque Works.
Of all things Crocodile expected to top off his humiliating defeat by the idiotic idealistic rookie, Straw Hat Luffy, being rescued by his former organization was the last thing that came to mind. Even as the sultry Miss Doublefinger sauntered into the cell, keys swinging casually from one finger, he felt something dark and bitter coil around his heart.
They smiled at him, no pity or mockery in their eyes, but genuine respect and-
No. Bile crawled up his throat at the thought of submitting to those treacherous thoughts. He would not allow himself to be drawn into the sweet promise of companionship. He was Crocodile. He would not be mocked! He'd take all that the World Government would throw at him: torture, death, even Impel Down itself over this humiliation.
He sat back, letting his worthless former employees blast their way out to freedom. He sat back and lit one of his cigars to release with the smoke in a lazy drawl,
"Don't feel like it."
Well, now that everyone knows what a tsundere indefinable person Crocodile is, it seems there's a lot underneath that protective mask of malice and misanthropy. Crocodile would sooner go to Hell (or the nearest equivalent in the One Piece 'verse) rather than allow himself to be saved by people he'd have murdered without a thought earlier on. He'd sooner take on one of the most powerful people in the world rather than allow his worst enemy to die at their hands. I really look forward to seeing more of this very complex and conflicted villain!
