Fic: Myth

The vendor glanced over at the leather bound book that his apprentice was looking at from behind the shop counter. A puzzled look came over the apprentice’s face.

“What’s got your face turned like that?” the old man asked.

“One of the solar sailors gave this to me. I thought it might be a log, but it’s just a story,” the apprentice said as the older man peered down at the book.

“Hmm... story of the Pirate King.”

That’s just a myth,” the teen scoffed as he flipped through the pages.

“How can you say that?” the vendor asked as the teen shrugged.

“Well think about it. The offspring of a dragon freely becomes human and chooses to become the brother of the heir of the Underworld? Not only that, but a whale is the heir’s guardian? In a fiery hell? It doesn’t make sense,” the apprentice said as he placed the book on the counter. The elder grabbed the book and slowly leafed through the pages.

“And then it goes on about how the dragon’s son had the ability to give life to lost souls and make them more powerful than humans.”

“A soul is a powerful thing,” the old man pointed out watching the youth shrug.

“All that and he let his brother die by Heaven’s hand?”

“You did say it was just a myth,” the old man said wisely, although his words seemed to fall on deaf ears as his apprentice continued in his rant.

“A phoenix that can’t cure and a diamond man who can’t make people rich? I mean you might as well just tell a story about a boy from a small town who overcame the world,” the apprentice huffed crossing his arms as the vendor smirked.

“But which would be the myth then?”
