Fourth Entry

[There's no rule against having Christmas themed dreams a few days late, is there? If there is, it's not one River Song ever paid any mind to. Of course, all of the music and decorations are contained in a rusty space ship-looking room, but without windows it might be anything from an old warehouse to a submarine. An excessively roomy submarine ( Read more... )

So go ahead. [Ami, dressed to be noticed, nods towards the feat that could... very generously... be called dancing, and then glances back to River.] If you're planning to do better, show them.

[She takes a sip of a non-alcoholic drink in its own crystal goblet, and watches the trio over the edge of the rim as she raises the glass to her lips. They seem... happy - no, contented. Like they don't need anything else, just each other. She knows the Doctor of course, but the other two are a mystery to her and something about the close-knit way they act with each other seems to forbid greeting him and having their eyes on her.

Funny she should feel that way again.]

Oh, he'll only pout all night as if I'd told him he couldn't wear his bow-tie. [She arches an eyebrow and glances at the younger woman.] Besides, I've already done that. What's the fun in repeating ourselves?

[Something in her wants to insist the Doctor can't just go off by himself with those other two. But it'd sound strange to say, wouldn't it? With poor grace, she swallows it down, and focuses on River instead.]

I didn't see you dance. Until I do, I don't believe it, either. Show me.

[But this is a night just for them. She interrupted it once, she doesn't want to again. Instead, she focuses on her guest.]

Are you asking me to a dance, then?

[She just doesn't want to be on the outside. But she can't say that, and instead she quirks an eyebrow, as her hand comes to rest on her hip.]

How bold of you! Shall we, then?

[Well, far be it from River to make someone say something like that. She offers Mizuno Ami an amused smirk and settles her drink on the table for now. There's no danger of it stolen, given it doesn't really exist, so she's not at all worried about holding out a hand to the other woman.]

Oh, you've never seen me bold.

[Maybe not, but she does like being at the center of things instead of off in the corner alone. She takes River's hand.]

Dance as well as you can! I don't have any intention of being lessened by my partner.

[River can hardly blame her for that particular urge, can she?]

Let's just see if you can keep up, then.

Don't worry about that. Worry about your own self. [There's a challenge in the turn of her head, the lilt of her smile.]

Oh, now, I never worry about myself. [She grins, amused.] What fun would that be?

Making everyone else around you disrupt themselves for you instead is too much.

Have I mentioned recently I quite like the way you think?

Now you have.

[Ami warms to the flattery with her own joke in return - but it's also true. One thing she no longer accepts is the idea that one person, the princess, should be so far above everyone else that even their lives, all of their lives, didn't matter next to her.

Never again.]

We were dancing, right?

I suppose I'll have to keep track in the future.

[Once in awhile such a person comes along anyway. Yet, the people worth it rarely allow anyone else to lay down those lives for them. Stubborn oxes.]

We're about to. I'm quite sure we haven't started yet.

[A smirk; she appreciates the technicality, evidently.]

Then let's begin. Shall I lead? [A challenge.]

[That makes two of them, then.]

If you'd like to try.
