[It starts not on Earth, not even on a space station. The dusty and red surface can only hint at one thing. Mars. Thankfully no one has to walks it’s surface. Instead it’s within the safety of the colony. One of the colonies actually. Anyone is free to explore the colony. It’s rather simple. Hallways lined with windows, most of the buildings ( Read more... )

[ Without war to fuel his temper, Abel has mellowed considerably. Where he might have barged into the laboratory unceremoniously, before, he waits quietly in the doorway, now, until he sees her head drop to the counter and hears that strange, weary greeting. ]

You won't be any good to anyone, if you wear yourself out completely. How long have you been up, Seth?

[ ...Asks the hypocrite, who still has a tendency to sleep only when he absolutely must, and keeps hours as odd as ever, otherwise. ]

[Which is a pleasant and welcome change. The last thing she'd need is a raging brother. And while she normally would have more of a witty comment she's a bit too worn to come up with one.]

Longer then you. But hey, work has to get done. Better now then never, right?

Not at the expense of your health.

[ It's obvious she's pushed herself well beyond her means, if she isn't even trying to snark him out of her lab. ]

You should get some rest.

[But the paperwork. Never-ending paperwork and tests to do.]

I'll be sure to do that. Later. When there's less work.

[ A sigh, as he regards her with some marked concern. ]

I don't know how you can even managed to concentrate, like that.

[ Hint, hint. He doesn't want to come right out and so boldly suggest that if she's falling asleep at the switch, there's a greater risk of error - and then even more work sorting things out. ]

[Because she is stubborn. Very stubborn when it comes to her work.]

You'd be surprised how persistence can manage a lot of things.

[ ...It's a family quality. The stubbornness, at least - Abel still hasn't developed much of a work ethic, of his own.

Though that doesn't keep him from meaning well, on occasion. ]

Well, is there anything I can do to help, then?

[She taps a couple of papers then gestures for him to come on over.]

Help me go through these so I can take a nap.

[ If it will motivate her to knock off work for a while, he'll take her up on that offer, mind-numbing as it sounds. Pulling up a seat at the counter, Abel rolls back the long, white sleeves of his uniform and slides over a few of those forms. ]

What are we looking at?

[She shoves a couple of folders his direction.]

They want to send up another group. However I intend to make sure they don't send anyone whose going to weigh us down. [Of course she'd reject them all but she needs to play nice and take a few.]

[ He takes up one of these, rifling through it before something apparently catches his curiosity and he stops to read. ]

Aren't we nearly at capacity, as it is? We could use more supplies, or materials for construction more than another group of settlers to properly train.

I intend on making that a clear point. On the other hand, I imagine some people get tired of the squabbles that start on Earth.

I can't imagine there are any who don't. But sending them all to us isn't solving either of our problems.

Tell that to them, again. They seem to think sending everyone here is the answer to everything.

Maybe I should, if they haven't listened to you.

[ Not that Abel has ever been allowed to deal in public relations, improved attitude notwithstanding. But he can dream. ]

Just don't threaten anyone. As much as I'd like to hit them too that won't help.
