There is one that did not share in the revelry.

As soon as he made his appearance on the bridge, Yoko stole herself away at the soonest opportunity to avoid detection by anyone else. She doesn't stray far--only a few feet down the hall, where she plops herself down on the cold steel floor to wait out the pomp and circumstance. She props her knees up and crosses her arms, resting them on top of her knees.

"Stupid..."

She doesn't know if she's talking about herself or Kamina.

There's a rumbling as the newly christened Dai Gurren starts into motion. While not exactly maiden voyage material -considering where the whole thing was now versus where it'd been when they started, the crew apparently decided while he was down and out to relocate. But now that everything seemed to be running smoothly, Kamina takes some time to detach himself from his new aide and take a look around the Dai Gurren Dan's catch on his own.

So as the doors hissed shut behind him, imagine his shock when he happens to find his favorite redhead looking pretty down in the hallway. Momentary look of concern quickly banished from his face, he struts toward her -that usual, almost arrogant swagger before crouching just a little to her side.

That unbecoming look of modest concern comes back as he puts on his best show of trying not to see too apologetic ( ... )

His words hadn't scared her; in fact, she could barely remember what he said at all since she couldn't hear it over the horrified screaming in her own head.

She looks up at him, her expression a mix of frustration, confusion, remorse, but mostly concern. Yoko puts her head back down, knowing that she really shouldn't be approaching him with this, but can't help it.

"You should be in bed."

It's difficult for him to fathom why, but for some reason just knowing her as he does has his gut telling him that there's far more wrong here than a closer than desired brush with death. Still, he can't quite put his finger on it and at least for now, opts to follow the line of conversation -shaking his head in response.

"Are you kidding me? I heard I've been out for a week! Ya think I'm gonna stay down when all this is goin' on?!" He offers his usual smirk to her, "Sides, I thought you of all people 'd be ecstatic to see me up and around again!" There's a pause before he speaks up again, "Simon's been holdin' up alright in all this too, right? I really got through to him out there and I'll be damned if I let him take a step back."

Yoko looks at him and catches his smirk; as a knee-jerk reaction, she lifts her hand to slap that smirk right off his face--how dare he give her that look while she feels this way--but hesitates when she takes particular notice of his bandages. She lowers her arm, but still maintains an incredibly angry expression.

"Look at yourself, Kamina! There's a big gaping hole in your chest and the only thing holding you together are a couple dozen stitches and a few feet of bandaging!" She leans forward, toward him. "I know you want to get up and walk around but it sure as hell isn't going to take much to snap one of those stitches and start up that uncontrollable bleeding that we already managed to deal with!"

She leans back, looking away, shaking slightly, just barely able to keep reign of her emotions. "...How are you supposed to take care of us--when you can't even take care of yourself?"

The part of his brain that did the thinking was quick to cede that she had a point. It was an exceptionally annoying point, but he couldn't deny it regardless of how hard he wanted to. Of course in situations like this, his own stubbornness was more than happy to come to his aid.

"Tch, so I'll take it easy and not jump around like a maniac." The look on his face easily reflecting his growing frustration. "Sides, hardly a damn thing got done while I was down and out! Yer the last person I figure I've gotta remind that this is a war here! So the sooner I'm up and at least able to call some shots, the better."

Kamina takes a moment to cross his arms over his chest, feeling he'd made a point. Though admittedly, he already knew that until he didn't need the bandages around his mid-section for anything more than looks, he'd be out of piloting the Gurren. But at the very least, he was going to see all of this through -at least from the bridge where he could do what he's best at in some capacity.

"Just leaning over could pop a stitch!"

She heaves out a sigh of her excess emotion. Yoko takes a moment to collect her nerves before speaking again.

She reaches out and takes a hold of the edges of his cape, pulling herself in to his chest, hiding her face under his chin.

"I...just don't want you to leave again. Kamina..."

Yoko doesn't really know why she said "again", and to be honest she didn't even know that she had.

For a moment, he was going to argue. Then in that instant, she was close to him again -it was the same kind of closeness they'd shared back before their skirmish that allowed them to capture the Dai Gunzan. The only difference was that here, it was colored with a shade of fear. Something about his brush with death had clearly jarred her far worse than he could've imagined.

And then something about what she'd said somehow stuck out to him: the word again.

It was enough to put a puzzled and confused look on his face as his face tilted downward a little, unable to look at her because of how she'd nestled against him.

"Oi, Yoko... what'do you mean by 'again'?"

Yoko backs away from him a half a step and takes his wrist. "Come on," she says, as if he'd never asked her that question. "I'll give you the tour of the place!"

She gives him a genuinely happy smile, albeit tinged with concern. "Maybe I can tire you out so you'll rest again, eh? Oh, but do you want to visit the med bay first, to get some pain killers or something before we start?"

Her reaction left him confused. If there was something he'd always been able to trust, it was her and Simon's judgment of a situation. And to have her so serious and worried one moment, then even modestly happy the next... it was worrisome. Something was going on and while the whole 'thinking things through' business was still new to him, even his gut instincts were blaring warning sirens about that statement.

So while he'd just been a little put off, he just opted to roll with things for now. Maybe it was just his imagination acting up and the emphasis he felt her use on 'again' was just him trying to think too hard.

No wonder he didn't do it too often.

When she was finished commenting about stopping by the med bay, he just chuckles a little and shakes his head, "Tch, I think they whacked me up on enough of that stuff earlier -I don't feel a damn thing."

There's that thinking thing again. Even if he had been healing for a week -he'd seen the damage while he was in Gurren's cockpit. He should feel some kind of pain that he should ( ... )

"Really? I guess the stuff beastman use isn't something to scoff at." She grins. "Good thing it belongs to us now!"

She pulls him along by the wrist, not going too quickly--she didn't want to make him trip--and brings him down the hallway. She hadn't planned something like this out, so she ended up just improvising with whatever they came across, letting him explore these new facilities as he wished. First, the kitchen, the engine room, and the hangar. She ends with the residential area.

"I guess this would be your room," Yoko says, gesturing. "No one else has claimed it."

Yoko would much rather stay in the same room as Kamina, because after camping in such close proximity with him (and others), sleeping by herself felt cold and lonely. But the choice was up to him.

"I'd show you the showers, too, but you shouldn't get your bandages wet..."

Yeah, something was off. He couldn't deny it as they walked around the battleship, but the way she was talking seemed very much like she was trying to keep him from dwelling too much on that question he'd asked of her. Still, aside from his gut feeling, he didn't have anything else to go on.

Something was going on and he could tell.

While another, more subtle man might try to just push this aside; play along and see what he could find out, Kamina was not a subtle man. He lived by his feelings and right now, every instinct he had seemed hell-bent on trying to tell him that there was something going on that he should pay attention to.

So after giving a casual glance at the shower, he gives Yoko a serious and almost uncharacteristically curious expression, "Yeah, I'll clean up when the docs clear me for that. But ya didn't answer me."

"About what?" she asks, curious expression on her face. Yoko was usually a pretty terrible actor, but it really did seem like she had no idea what he was talking about.

He trusted her, but he knew her fairly well too. Or at least that was something he was fairly confident about. Suffice it to say, he figured he knew her enough to tell when something was off about her or when she was trying to brush over a detail.

So still seeming pretty confused, he repeated his question to her, "You said you didn't want me to leave 'again'." There's an almost awkward silence as he pauses just long enough to let that sink in, "What'd you mean by that?"

"...Did I?" she asks, feeling the same kind of awkwardness fall over herself. "That's strange," she murmurs, looking away and thinking about why she could have possibly said such an odd thing.

"I guess I must have...had a bad dream last night about you," she guesses. It sounds about right--she vaguely remembers the feeling of mourning. Yoko really doesn't want to spend that much time thinking about it, so she turns to Kamina once again.

She knew she had told herself to wait, but she really doesn't want to miss an opportunity, now that she'd thought of how she felt about losing him. "Actually...do you, ah..." Her lips curl upward just slightly, blushing a little. "Do you want to...share a room with me?"

Some part of him still doesn't want to buy it, but it was Yoko and his injuries had been pretty bad. So maybe it was just a really bad nightmare for her. He just nodded to himself, pushing his doubt aside and going with his general feeling of trust he had in her.

He'd actually still been thinking and settling stuff with himself when suddenly, her question suddenly stood out like stark black on a white background to him. It actually made him look genuinely shocked for all of a split second before he hastily recomposed himself, trying to pay no mind to the slight flush of color that developed on his face.

"You mean we aren't already?" That borderline arrogance came back in full-force, "I'm a man of my word and I've got a promise to keep now!"

Didn't hurt things that he was already wondering what she wears -or more importantly, doesn't wear to bed.
