I just returned from a 5 day visit at McGuire AFB in New Jersey. It was a good time. I look forward more than ever to commissioning, though I now know more than ever that as an engineer, I will be more of an administrator than an engineer. It makes me feel like my technical background is going to be wasted. Oh well. As one of the 2LTs said: " ( Read more... )

I can imagine why someone would fear losing their individuality, or feel that an individual's acts has no greater importance (leading to a degradation of morals).

You should read American Psycho, which I just finished. It is about exactly that.

We do what we can when we can, if only for the satisfaction of knowing we can, or because its tax deductible.

That is witty as hell. I applaud you.

That's great, J. Truly great.

Still reading Vonnegut, eh? I haven't in a long, long time. How is it? How are things? I guess it does just go.

Things are ok I suppose. I don’t really have anything worth complaining about, but that doesn’t keep me from it. I’m still trying to figure out if love is a crock of shit, and whether or not I’m worth a damn. It all depends on point of view I suppose.

“So it goes” is the best way I know of dealing with the world around me. Three kids’ bodies are found in a car trunk and you sigh and say “So it goes…” and somehow, even though it doesn’t make the situation right or even remotely better, it’s a pill that’s a little easier to swallow.

KV makes tragedy funny, or at least put it in perspective. I’m not sure when I’m going to start reading grown up books. I can’t seem to read anything but novels either.

I just got done visiting your new and improved site. My my! It is a work of art! I am tremendously impressed! And yes, Mozilla Firefox is the shit.

How is life treating you?

My, how we all seem to go through the same things at the same time. I feel like it should give us some sense of solidarity and yet it only seems to diminish the significance of our problems even further ( ... )

ah! i loved philadelphia! its where sirens of titan found me ,on the subject of love/ disaffection/ vonnegut , you read that right? " the most important thing in life is to love whoever's around"( not sure if thats exactly how it went, but thats the spirit) << KV in one of his less cynical moments. not about settling , its about not being in love with ghosts and ideas . far as that goes , id err on the side of assuming love is not a crock of shit. also is prefer the tralfamadorian time logic, hte " what is always has been and what was always will be" to hte " so it goes" . stupid shit happens and will continue to happen, but beautiful shit happened and continues to happen too. those three kids weren't always in a trunk, theres plenty of moments in the big mountain range of time where they're perfectly alright.
