Game Freak, what the fuck?

For anyone who hasn't heard (of course who hasn't by now if you are in the pokemon fan loop). N's official name was revealed today to be "Natural Harmonia Gropius".  To be honest, I'm not bothered by the name Natural like so many other fans are. It's the Gropius part that is iffy for me (GROPENIUSWHAT!? Yeah I know, it's actually a real name, but who on Earth would torture their kid with that name!?). Of course I really wasn't bothered by Hilda and Hilbert either, so I don't know why Gropius is getting to me so much. Maybe it will grow on me, Damn you German names....

As for the rest of the translation of the blog where this was revealed, welp, I can't exactly read Kanji, so I'm going by the translations of many other fans. Here's what I have.
  • Natural comes from "Natural Number"
  • He has a very high IQ
  • He is extremely skilled when it comes to math.
  • He is bright, but has violent emotional ups and downs
  • He can see peoples pasts and futures (WHAT!? THIS IS A BIG THING THAT WAS KIND OF A LITTLE BIT LEFT OUT! ASLKDLASJ!)
  • It is rumored amongst pokemon that he was created by pokemon
  • He stands aloof from the world and keeps people at a distance, caring more for pokemon
  • He thinks of himself as perfect
Much of this was already explored in the game so it doesn't really surprise me (I mean whenever he speaks there is something math related snuck in there and he wears a Menger sponge). I also figured he had violent emotional ups and downs from the little scene between him, the protag and Juniper in Chargestone Cave when he throws a little fit over the pokedex. Also how outside of the minestrone gym he asks if he is the only one to find trainer battles painful, and quickly follows it up with a "Whatever" before insisting he talks with your lead pokemon. He always came off as kind of bratty and childish to me (which is to be expected since he grew up believing he was a king). Same goes for the believing he is perfect and being extremely intelligent parts. I would imagine someone raised to believe they were a king would aim to be highly intelligent and believe they were perfect.

Crazy enough, as much as the being able to see others past and futures shocking other fans, I can kind of see it too. How else would he have know that the protag was going to be the other hero? I don't know, it's a little iffy, but I think it could be worked into the plot.

Mostly posting this because I've been roleplaying N for a while now, and I've been really excited for more things on him. This is why I am really excited for a Pokemon Gray to come out, especially if we were to get more Team Plasma/Ghetsis/N in there. Now, I don't know, I'm kind of worried they are going to ruin everyone's perception of N with adding more to his character. I kind of like his backstory being ambiguous. I don't want to know exactly where he came from, who he was raised by or how he came to be a certain way. I mean, fans have their own speculations and that's nice. For us it's always been common place to believe Ghetsis is N's father (because really they NEVER say exactly how N and Ghetsis are related. For all we know, Ghetsis found N, or Ghetsis could even be N's brother. Think about it).

I really however like to keep my own personal head canon with that kind of stuff. I'm kind of afraid now that a new game is going to ruin that. So at this point, I don't know how much I'm behind pokemon gray anymore...

hmmmm...

what? i don't even, fandoms, pokemon
