So it's not that Ariadne is short that causes him not to see her when he bumps into her. He manages to catch her before she falls - thank god for his fast reflexes - and pulls her up against him.
And then the evil mistletoe made itself known because Steve Rogers pulls her up for a kiss.]

It's also a miracle that when the kiss ends he doesn't drop her. Instead he blinks, staring down at her in his arms, and very carefully sets her down.
