[ Eames, for his part, despite his exhaustion from the move-in, can't really sleep. So he's spending some time combing through the device with some measure of boredom, wondering if the thing has mahjong, when he comes upon this post with a small frown. ]

[ Why Eames doesn't just get up and ask when she's right next door is a question that occurs only momentarily before she remembers that, oh yes, it's Eames. Either way, she sighs, tossing her pen onto her desk before she texts back. ]

Writing fanfiction. I've hit some snags.

No -- the people who write/read it are the fans. Like... You've seen Star Trek, right?

[ oops ]

Fanfiction writers will take characters from Star Trek or anywhere else and write stories about them in different scenarios that are outside the source material and what's considered canon. A lot of it is romantic or pornographic in nature. Star Trek is actually hailed as the first fandom -- that's the community of people who are fans, basically -- to write slash fic, which is basically just stories where the characters are gay and usually having sex. Captain Kirk and Spock was huge back in the day.

interesting. i considered "slash" to be more of the chainsaw type.

so youre writing about kirk and spock having romantic sex ?

If you're writing about two women, you typically call it "femmeslash".

No, not this time. There's also this thing called RPF, or Real Person Fic. Basically if you ever wanted the Queen and the Pope to hook up, you could write that and it would be RPF. I guess that's what this is since you're all real.

[ Or real enough. ]
