5 Things Meme

Directions: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

My responses to Silverdawnatl's list:

1)Gru -

I can talk for a long time about Grue, I'll try to keep it brief here. He was my first larp character ever and I actually made him to be disposable. A simple fighter to get to learn the game with before my "real" character. I came up with what I thought was a simple backstory (only four pages long or so) and set off to game. I had a hell of a ride with Grue. He faced tough decisions and went through dramatic changes.
Through Grue I also discovered several things about myself that I never really let out until I played him.
- I decide if I like someone very quickly. Once I like you, I like you and it takes some serious hard work to make that go away. Grue was quick to form judgements of character and they were almost always right. A side bonus, I made some exellent lifelong real-world friends as a result.
- It's ok to be a big dumb guy every once in a while. You can't always be the smartest guy in the room, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you end up looking like the dumbest guy in the room. So when people underestimate you, let them, it lets you keep a card up your sleeve.
- Getting mad in game is fun, and very cleansing. Letting yourself really throw a big roaring angry fit in game lets off so much of your real world stress. Let some of those big emotions go in pretend-land, and you have to deal with them less in real life.

2)Doing something because you love it (running WLW because of your time as a PC)-

You simply can't run a LARP unless you have a love for the game. There isn't any money in it and it's a ton of work and headache. I'm very glad we chose to keep wildlands going up here. It's been a hassle and i've felt like quitting more than once, but at my core I still have a deep love, not so much for the game, but for the people who play it and for getting to entertain each other by playing it.
That being said, I could have loved the game all I wanted and WLW would never have happened if it weren't for Wayce. I did a lot of work on WLW. There are plenty of cool things that never would have existed in the game if I wasn't involved, but we simply wouldnt have a game to play without Wayce's hard work. All the legal/business crap that had to be done was a chore and he did pretty much all of it by himself.

3)Not sure how to put it, but the #1 person that should be a dad but isn't. Life sucks. I can't think of anyone that would be better parents -

I'm very flattered that you feel this way, especially coming from a father. However, i'm not some wonder dad-in waiting. I feel I'm good with kids, and enjoy being around them. But like most adults I tire of them after a while and just want to send them to their room or I become short or unsympathetic when I'm tired or stressed. I would not make a bad father by any means, and I would still like to do it, but I don't think I'd be super awesome dad either.
Daisy however, is magic with kids. Few things make me want to dramitically curse the universe more than her being denied a chance to give birth to her own children. She is a very good woman who should get to have babies.
Jackasses who abandon, abuse or ignore their kids get to have litters of them and we don't. If there is a God who has this as his/her/it's plan, then their plan sucks and they are a cruel, distant and unsympathetic creature. Thankfully, this isn't the case and the universe itself is simply hard and uninvolved in our personal desires.
Life isn't fair. But because of that, this schlumpy guy gets to have this wonderful woman love him, and that is worth something.

4)Banshee Redemption - The first redeemed for WLW I think.

I can take little credit for this other than my own performance in it. That storyline is Daisy through-and-through. I helped, but she did all the major creative work on it. I'm very happy with it. I would have preferred a little larger audience for the climax, but you take what you can get. It was a marvelous mix of human drama, love and tragedy, and well-acted if I may brag on myself and Daisy for a minute.

5)Akido

Since Aikido is my "new shiny" right now, I could go on about it for a long time. But it has been a huge boon to me in pretty much every fashion. If anyone out there has thought about taking a martial art and never gotten around to it, go start the one you like now. You will just end up feeling silly for not getting started sooner.
I am dropping weight, feeling healthier, more confident and generally more awesome all the time. I have discovered how much further I can push myself than I realized. It has also helped me meet some new people and get involved in some new conversations, which is always welcome.
Also, the other day I discovered that I can pop back onto my feet from lying on the floor on my belly. Kind of a specific-use talent, but one that definately drops people off their guard if they thought you were at a disadvantage.
