Thank you very much for responding to my prompt. And please don't apologize; I really enjoyed this. :)

Stefan was no fool, he knew that the connection between Damon and Elena was stronger than friendship and that, if he really loved Elena, he couldn't be able to even atempt to sever that relationship.

This, in particular, resonated strongly for me. It's pretty clear on the show that Stefan has some sense of how Damon feels about Elena, and yet he has not tried to keep Damon and Elena from interacting. He hasn't acted like a jealous boyfriend, I think. Not every man would behave the same.
