Ron Weasley never dreamed that he would fall in love with Hermione Granger. If he would have been told about it in his first year, he would have claimed they were mental. Of course he wouldn't fall in love with her, I mean, look at her. She's got bushy hair and she's completey lunatic!
But that was not the case. He couldn't pin point exactly at what moment he realized he loved Hermione as much more than a friend. He suspected it had happened since the very beginning (although he didn't want to admit this, of course, because that would have been--well,--mental). But he knew, back when he had run off on both Harry and Hermione that he missed her. Missed her more than he would have missed a friend (at the same time it made him feel guilty that he hadn't missed Harry half as much, but still).
So when she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him, surprising him and everyone who had seen it right there in the middle of the War, he didn't see fireworks or felt a burning passion.
He had been the firework, exploding in the night sky, set ablaze by those rosy lips of her. It was so much better, he thought, much better than he had hoped and expected.
